Message from the Director
Hello Kindians,
Martin Luther King Jr. once said “Life’s persistent and most urgent question is ‘What are you doing to others?’”
In November, Kindi did give to others! Our Thanksgiving Baskets Drive. was a beautiful show of support for the needy families in our local neighborhoods. We put together 31 Baskets, each feeding at least 8 people. This is about 250 people fed! This is GREAT! We hope that we can grow this program in the future and make Kindi a beacon of hope for all those in need. We also aim for our children to grow with the mindset of paying back to their community.
We will have more Giving projects to come. With your engagement, Kindi can give many a better life. As Denzel Washington once said “At the end of the day, it’s not about what you have or even what you’ve accomplished .. It’s about who you’ve made better. It’s about what you’ve given back!”
Our first half of the year is coming to a close soon. Our teachers are watching your children growing, learning, and achieving new milestones everyday. It is amazing what an effective day of learning can add to child's experience and knowledge. This is what we do here everyday.
We have great plans and activities in the second half of the year including the Spring Celebration, the Overnight Wisconsin Trip, Bake Sales, Spelling Bee, and more. It will be a busy second half. But, for now, everyone deserves a small break and a chance to decouple from the busy school day, and that's what Winter Break is for!
I wish everyone a great, safe, and restful Winter Break. See you again next year!
Best wishes,
Hatem Elagha

Message from the Dean
Greetings Eagles,
It’s crazy to think we are already in the month of December! Time really does fly by when you’re having fun. I am so proud of all the progress our Eagles have been making this year with our monthly themes. It’s been amazing to walk throughout the building and see many acts of kindness, friendship, and community building up and down the halls. School is not just about academics, it’s also about the strong bonds of building community that we are a part of each and every day. Let’s keep up the great work!
This month, our theme is Compassion. To be compassionate is to treat others with respect, be kind to one another, and have a desire to help those who need it most. Being compassionate is helping those who need it the most. Something as simple as listening to those who need someone to talk to, including someone who is lonely, making a card to cheer up a sad classmate, or helping a teacher when they need it most.
If the world had more compassion in it, it would be a much better place. By teaching compassion to our students, we are shaping the minds of those who will build us a better tomorrow.
How wonderful to know that it all starts here at Kindi Academy!
Thank you for all you continue to do in support of our students.
As always…GO EAGLES!
My best to you all,

News from our 3-6 Classrooms
"Mistakes are proof that we are trying." ~Jennifer Lim
As the children work towards becoming more independent this time of year, we set examples by showing them what to do. For instance, with the arrival of cold weather, we showed the children how to properly hang up their coats, pull out the sleeves, and how to put on their coats. This has become a norm in our classroom as we keep working towards building confidence and independence.
November wrapped up quicker than imagined, and we're approaching the end of the calendar year! We discussed the parts of a turkey and talked about the story of Thanksgiving. We also talked about the importance of helping people who are less fortunate than us. Thank you to all of the families who donated food items so that we could put together the boxes of meals. The children enjoyed decorating the boxes that were sent to the food pantry! As a whole school, we were able to donate 31 boxes of food from Kindi to provide needy families with a delicious Thanksgiving meal! How wonderful!
Spirit Week was a great way for the whole school to show a little school spirit by participating. Each day the children had a chance to get creative and take a break from their daily uniforms. From crazy hair/hat day to cultural day, these kids definitely showed school spirit! Go Eagles!
We also had a wonderful experience at the DuPage Children’s Museum in Naperville this month! The children enjoyed many hands-on activities that the museum had to offer. The kids had an opportunity to make shadows on the wall, create bubbles of all sizes, build something out of wood and nails, play at the water table, learn about air and electricity, and so much more! It’s safe to say that everyone had a great time and a lot of fun exploring!
As December continues, we will present the parts of a snowman, gingerbread man, and reindeer to start off the Winter season! The children are working hard, and they love doing various works from different areas in the classroom. Many kids have started blending and word building and some have even started reading Bob Books!
The past few months have been hectic, but filled with fun and lots of learning! We look forward to winter break to rest up and be ready to learn more in the new year!

Updates from Our 6-9 Classroom
“The greatest gifts we can give our children are the roots of responsibility and the wings of independence".
Maria Montessori
The depth of our students' engagement in all the activities of class is preparing them to accomplish new challenges.
Our First year students are reading and working on analyzing the elements of a story. Students are reading text and practicing identifying the setting, characters, plot, problem, and resolution of the story. They are also excited about performing proofreading exercises and learning to apply these new grammar and editing skills to their writings. .
In math, addition and subtraction with carry over and borrow using the stamp game is providing students the opportunity to internalize these concepts. Identifying and adding coins exercises have been introduced.
In science, we have an ongoing study of vertebrates and fundamental needs of humans. Students are also enjoying learning about matter and the three states of matter with experiments and research work. This month we demonstrated how liquid water is frozen to become a solid (ice) and when the water is heated up to boiling, we can see the steam (gas) rise!
Our Second year students have been challenged to apply new vocabulary into their own creative stories. Proofreading and word study is also an integral part of their language exercises. They have built a foundation for the elements of the story from their first year lessons.
Ongoing practice of addition, subtraction, and multiplication problems further solidify their learned mathematical concepts. They are excited to learn 2 digit divisor and 4 digit dividend with the stamp game. New geometrical concepts are being introduced as well to lay the foundation for future mathematical concepts.
In science, students are researching matter and the states of matter. They are also working on the parts of invertebrates with the ongoing planet and Fundamental Needs of Humans projects.
Our Third year students presented their Native American research and dioramas to the class. They took pride in sharing their knowledge and hard work with their young classmates. Ongoing reading and writing exercises are providing them the opportunity to apply correct usage of vocabulary, punctuation, and spellings. Reading and writing is an integral part of our learning. The mastery for the elements of the story is evidently reflected in the final year of 6-9 class. Students are applying their cursive writing skills beautifully throughout their work.
In math, students are practicing to calculate area, perimeter, measurement, and addition and subtraction of fractions with unlike denominators using the lowest common multiple (LCM).
In science, children are demonstrating their skills in research work focused on matter and the states of matter.
Students are enjoying art work projects with their integrated learning.
All our students have extended their learning from their timeines to reading biographies and connecting with famous people is a treat to see!

4th Grade English Language Arts and Reading
The 4th graders continue to show their dedication to growing. Students are continuing to work on their spelling and widening their vocabulary. Students have approached vocabulary by using our spelling books and have classroom discussions. Students have also been working on differentiating proper and common nouns, adjectives, and pronouns. We also have been working on paragraph structure. As I always tell the students, the best way to get better at anything is to practice.
Students have been broken up into two reading groups which are reading both amazing books titled Wonder and A Whole New Ballgame. Both books have similar themes such as acceptance of others' differences and friendship. Students are having engaging discussions to help them understand the book. Students have been answering hard hitting questions to make sure they are truly understanding the book and are improving on their reading comprehension.

November was the month for mitosis, meiosis and heredity. The 6th graders got to work reproducing al the mitosis phases using Oreo cookies, and afterwards enjoyed eating their creations!
They also got to play with genetics by creating a “bug”, where they randomly selected different traits and put them together in chromosomes before they built their bugs.
7th & 8th Grade
The 7th graders have been learning about solubility, solubility curves and concentration. After learning the theory and solving problems, they worked creating a solubility curve where they went through the steps to make a unsaturated, saturated and supersaturated solution. They also observed what happens when a supersaturated solution is cooled down.
During the month of November, as we wrap up the physics unit, the 8th graders experimented with potential and kinetic energy, work, power, simple machines and efficiency.

Pyhsical Education - Grades 4-8
Students in grades 4th-8th have been focused on fitness, cooperative games, and learned new movement patterns to music this month! 6-8th grade students have enjoyed simple yoga classes with a focus on building core strength and improving posture and flexibility for sports performance. 4-6th grade students have successfully completed a mini unit on movement to music. We have practiced gross motor patterns with our feet like a grapevine step, pivoting/turning a quarter turn, and listening to a rhythm. If you saw our Instagram, our students had a lot of fun doing the "Chicken Dance" as they clapped and skipped along to a silly beat.
4-8th grade students all experienced the thrill of "Continuum Ball" where they had to non verbally communicate with each other and keep a volleyball in the air as many times as possible before it drops. 6th grade has the current record with 23, but other classes are getting close!
Students should continue to track bi-weekly exercise sessions in their personal fitness log on Google Classroom.
Upcoming physical education lessons will include learning/reviewing proper exercise techniques for traditional body weight strengthening and hi-low aerobics to continue our focus on personal fitness.

4th Grade Introduction to Technology I
Our 4th Graders have been doing a great job in Technology class! We continued building our skills with Google Sheets, learning about conditional formatting. The kids then took what they learned and applied it to pixel art- making their own Fall-Themed pieces of art!
The kids also did a great job with their Animation Projects where they got to create a slideshow presentation depicting a scene, make changes to each slide, and when played as a slideshow it would depict an animated scene! We also watched a few video clips about Walt Disney and the animation techniques he used in the early days of Disney. The kids really enjoyed it!!
We also have been working on our keyboarding skills with Typetastic and will continue to do so in the coming weeks. We will be learning about making websites with Google Sites, creating their own student portfolio, and working on coding!
The 4th graders are working very hard and I am so proud of the growth I’ve seen since August! Keep up the great work, and have a wonderful winter break!

7th & 8th Grade Advanced Technology II
Our 7th and 8th Grade classes have been working hard since the start of 2nd quarter! The kids did a great job with their Area Guide Projects, where they combined their knowledge of Google Sheets with new skills in Coding using AppScript and map skills with Google MyMaps!
Students also made a Digital Portfolio using Google Sites that I hope they will contribute to as the year progresses in all of their classes.
Students also learned how to build their own apps. We did an exercise in class where students were tasked with building an app to make a dice roll, and then students got to build their own apps about a topic of their choice…the topics of the apps ranged from book recommendations, biography of a famous person, or an app about a country!
In the coming weeks, we will be learning about Video Production and Editing using WeVideo. Students will be creating trailers for their final projects from Creative Expression Class among other exciting projects.
Towards the end of the quarter the kids will have the opportunity to showcase all the skills they’ve learned this year with their final projects. Among all the excitement with the projects, students also are building their keyboarding skills throughout the quarter with their Typetastic assignments. Please remind your children to keep working on Typetastic!
I am so proud of everyone’s hard work this month! Let’s end the 2nd quarter on a strong note. Have a wonderful Winter Break!

5th-8th Grade Social Studies News from Mr. Memisovski
Our Social Studies classes are busy at work again! Final Exams are coming up for Grades 6, 7, and 8 and we are finishing up our last units before the end of the 2nd quarter.
Our 5th graders have finished their unit on Ancient India and did a wonderful job recording vlogs about major events happening during the times of the Ancient Indians as if they were living through the time period. We are now studying Ancient China, looking at the different dynasties and their accomplishments.
In 6th grade, we are finishing up our unit on Europe. Students put together excellent Travel Websites about a European country of their choice, and will be presenting their findings to the class in the coming days. We will also be looking at the differing cultures, histories, and comparing and contrasting the countries of Western and Eastern Europe. Students did a great job contributing to an online discussion board on Canvas about Brexit and the European Union Today- and had a wonderful follow-up discussion in class. The kids really had a lot to say about whether it was a good decision to “Brexit” or not.
In 7th grade, we just concluded our unit on Westward Expansion. The kids made wonderful advertisement posters to try to encourage other Americans to move westward. We are now learning about the causes and events leading up to the Civil War, the major battles and turning points of the war, and Reconstruction.
In 8th grade, we concluded our unit on the French Revolution as well as a study of Nationalism. We discussed the different types of Nationalist Movements in the 1800s and examined the unification of Germany and Italy. We are now beginning our unit on Industrialization. Students will be writing another DBQ Essay before Final Exams on the effects of Industrialization.
I am always so proud of the hard work and dedication our students continue to show throughout the school year. I hope everyone has a wonderful Winter Break!

adequately and every day they surprise me more with all their learning.
In the 3-6 program, we have already started working on the song that the children will
dance and sing during the spring celebration, the children love it! We have worked on
a lot of topics such as family, weather, the alphabet, vowels, days of the week, farm
and zoo animals, parts of the body, numbers 0-20, and vocabulary about Winter. In
addition, we have introduced the position of adjectives in Spanish speaking.
In the 6-9 program, we continue to work on reading and writing in Spanish. We have
worked with the animals of the farm and the zoo, writing the numbers from 0-20 and
vocabulary related to the Thanksgiving celebration. In addition, we have worked on
the position of adjectives in Spanish (speaking and in writing). The 3rd-grade students
have had their first Spanish test, to get used to it for next year.
The 4th and 5th-grade students have finished Unit 1 of the Book ¡Viva el Español!,
working on the singular and plural of nouns and doing a reading about Spain. We
started Unit 2 by reviewing colors, basic shapes, and animals.
I am happy with all my students' progress, and I enjoy being part of this school every
day. I wanted to take the opportunity to wish you a Happy Holiday. I hope you enjoy
your Winter Break very much.
¡Hasta pronto!

Spanish with Maestra Alicia:
4th. Grade
Students have been excited & engaged with our current topic “Animales de varios colores”
(Animals of various colors). They have mastered the vocabulary: basic colors, shapes, animals
and adjectives. Now they can describe their favorite animals in Spanish! They will continue to
learn to use singular, plural, masculine and feminine endings on adjectives, and definite and
indefinite articles. Soon they will be describing animals around the world, especially in Latin
America.
5th. Grade
Students are slowly transitioning into the grammar part of Unit 3. They are learning to use the
singular present tense forms ir + a (to go) to talk about going places. They were assigned to
create a poster with different places. They then presented the poster using sentences that
explain exactly where they wanted to go. Overall, all the students did great at presenting their
posters!
6th. Grade
I am beyond proud of my sixth graders! They are eager to learn and score high in assignments,
quizzes and tests. I love how comfortable they become with speaking Spanish.
During this month they learned how to form the verb -ir (to go) and the use of the words a and
adonde to say or ask where someone is going during and after class. We are beginning Unit 3,
“Puerto Rico” /”Comer en Familia.” They have been practicing vocabulary about food and
beverages on a new online program, “Conjuguemos,” that everyone seems to be enjoying!
7th/8th. Grade
Students have been working on putting together a poster to represent their dream town with
places of their choice. They were able to use the previously learned verbs -ir + a to say where
they go and use the Spanish words for their transportation: a pie, en coche and en autobus.
The students were very successful in completing the assignment and building onto their
previously taught lessons. They also have been learning how to form o→ue stem changing
verbs, using a new online program, “Conjuguemos.” Now they can use these verbs in their day
to day life!
