Message from the Director
Hello Kindians,
As the school year draws to a close, it's time to reflect on the journey we've undertaken together, celebrating the accomplishments of our incredible students and expressing our gratitude to the pillars of support—parents and teachers. This year has been filled with triumphs, growth, and unforgettable memories, and we couldn't be prouder of the remarkable achievements of our students.
First and foremost, we would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to the parents who have been there every step of the way, providing unwavering support, encouragement, and guidance. Your dedication to your children's education is truly commendable. Whether it was volunteering for school events, attending parent-teacher conferences, or assisting with homework, your commitment has played a vital role in shaping the success of our students. Thank you for entrusting us with the privilege of nurturing and educating your children.
Equally deserving of recognition are our devoted teachers who have gone above and beyond to create a nurturing environment and inspire our students. Their tireless efforts, enthusiasm, and expertise have guided our students towards greatness. From designing engaging lessons to providing individualized attention, our teachers have been instrumental in fostering a love for learning. They have not only imparted knowledge but also instilled important values and skills that will benefit our students for years to come. Thank you, teachers, for your unwavering dedication and commitment to our students' growth and well-being.
At this time, let us cherish the achievements and highlights of the past year. Together, we have witnessed remarkable performances, groundbreaking projects, and heartwarming acts of kindness. It is these collective accomplishments that remind us of the incredible potential within our school community. We commend each and every student for their determination, resilience, and the outstanding progress they have made.
As we look ahead to the future, let us carry the lessons learned this year as valuable stepping stones towards even greater successes. Let us embrace the opportunities that lie ahead, confident in our ability to achieve greatness and make a positive impact on the world around us.
To our students, parents, and teachers, we extend our warmest gratitude for making this school year one to remember. We hope that the summer break rejuvenates and renews your spirits, allowing you to return with fresh perspectives and boundless enthusiasm.
Wishing you all a safe, joyful, and unforgettable summer filled with adventures, relaxation, and cherished moments.

Hello Kindians,
This has been such a rewarding school year! The end of the school year is always a wonderful, yet bittersweet time. We see so much academic progress happening with our Eagles and have built many wonderful friendships and memories with each other. We’ve been on fun field trips and have completed many fun projects. Now we find ourselves quickly sailing towards graduations and awards ceremonies to honor our students and celebrate their hard work and achievements this school year.
Our theme for this month is Leaving a Legacy. I constantly find myself talking to students about how they want to be remembered years down the road. It may be the history teacher in me that always finds myself wondering more about this. With the kids, we talk about the things that truly matter…their character and the way they treat others. This will be the heart of our SEL Assemblies during the month of May.
It’s true that we remember the fond memories of friendships, field trips, and activities, but even more so…years down the road the kids will be remembering things like the nice way they’d be greeted by their friends, how their teachers cared for them and worked with them to make them the best they could be, and how Kindi was the place where all this happened!
Thank you all for your hard work, dedication, and support this year! None of the events are possible without the support of our families and Kindi Community. Thank you to our teachers for their dedication to making our students the best they can be for the world, and thank you to our students for their efforts this year and brightening our day! You truly make every day a Great Day to be an Eagle!
Next year…In Lisle! Have a wonderful summer!

News from our 3-6 Classrooms
“The greatest sign of success for a teacher is to be able to say, ‘The children are now working, as if I did not exist.’”
~Maria Montessori
The end of the school year is near, and the next few weeks will be busier than ever! We started off April with a field trip to Pilcher Park! The children enjoyed learning about turtles and tortoises and touching their shells. They took a walk to the pond and saw frogs, toads, and turtles in their natural habitat. They also took a hike in the woods to learn about the plants and insects, see animal tracks, and explore how animals use nature to survive. The children got to look at other animals, like snakes and guinea pigs and make a turtle craft to take home!
Our children have been making great strides in academics, especially in reading! All of them have advanced in either blending or reading/comprehension, and we are so proud of how much progress they have all made! Our kindergartners have been learning many different grammar concepts, including nouns, verbs, adjectives, syllables, compound words, and homophones! In math, many children are working on subtraction and multiplication as well as adding four-digit numbers without regrouping! We will also introduce division to the kindergartners before school lets out for the summer. In science, the kids have been working on many life cycles, including the life cycle of bees, butterflies, chickens, frogs, turtles, and plants! Overall, the children have been actively learning and working very hard!
Earth Day was on April 22nd, so we discussed what items can be recycled and what happens to those items when they go to the recycling facility. We read a story about Earth Day and talked about what they can do at home to help conserve the Earth’s energy and save water! The children also made an Earth Day craft to take home.
With kindergarten graduation around the corner, we started practicing our class poem and the songs that the kindergarteners will be performing on graduation day, which will be on Wednesday, May 24th. They are looking forward to putting on a great performance and graduating to first grade!
Finally, Mary Macaroni visited Kindi, and she put on a great show for the children! She entertained them with songs, movement, dancing, magic tricks and more! The children were laughing so hard and really enjoyed themselves! The last field trip of the school year will be at Lincoln Marsh where the children will explore nature, look for insects under logs, and do some hiking.
This year went by quickly, but we enjoyed every moment of it! We are truly proud of our kids and how much they learned! We will miss them all greatly and hope to see them over the summer and next Fall!

Updates from Our 6-9 Classroom
“Imagination does not become great until human beings, given the courage and the strength, use it to create.”

Spring is finally here, and we’re looking forward to our Lisle move and summer break. Thank you to all of the parents for your support this school year. We couldn’t have done it without you. We have had so much fun teaching your children this year. It is a true blessing to have great students and families at Kindi Academy.
Our first grade students have been extremely busy with new presentations. The students are working hard and learning new concepts such as multiplication and division with our unique Montessori materials. They are enjoying adding and subtracting fractions with the understanding of materials. The students are continuing to write beautiful descriptive writing paragraphs. We would like to see them read and write beyond their school work. This is the best way for them to become confident writers. Grammar and word study exercises are an integral part of their work which will serve as a scaffolding for their future work. Projects of Social Sciences have created a new enthusiasm for their learning.
The second year students are working hard and have been introduced abstractly on their 2 digit multiplier with 4 digit multiplicand.problems. Division with 4 digit dividend with 1 digit diviosr have been introduced with our special test tube division material. Students have been practicing narrative writing with the prompt cards. They are writing with introduction, detail and closing sentences. It is a treat to see their unique writing pieces. Social Sciences are the integral part of their work and they are striving to achieve their goals.
Our third year students are working on advanced math concepts abstractly which will serve as a strong foundation for the next year. Challenging fraction word problems, along with pre-algebra has been introduced. Students are working well on all the grammar, proof reading, vocabulary and reading comprehension exercises. They are excited to work on the Periodic Table, systems of the human body, United States of America: states and capitals, Government, and History of U.S.A.
We will continue to do new presentations in the coming weeks of school. Additionally we will be reviewing all the work to enhance their reading ability, comprehension skills, and vocabulary. Please continue to do reading, writing practice and math facts during the summer break.
Our Third Grade students are graduating. We have mixed emotions; we are delighted to see their accomplishments to step into their new educational journey with head high but we’re sad at the same time to see them leave our classroom. They will always be remembered with special memories.
We wish you a safe, relaxing and wonderful Summer Break!
See you next school year!

Updates from 4th Grade
4th Grade Language Arts and Reading
After completing the the novel “Number the Stars”, students have been completing a cover book illustration project in groups that correlates with the overall summary of the book. With this, they provide evidence from the book, while ensuring they include symbols and themes within this book. Some themes included in this novel include: Bravery, Sacrifice, family, growing up, and so much more. While reading this novel, students have completed “comprehension packets” after each chapter in order to test students’ comprehension, which also prepare them for the “Number the Stars” test.
Students also continue to work on their grammar and writing by completing “writing prompts” every week. This ensures they understand how to use their own creativity to write effectively.
Along with this, students are also working on their spelling by completing spelling packets and tests every week. This ensures they understand definitions, and know the spelling of fourth grade level words.
4th Grade Social Studies
Students have completed the topic of Southwest Asia and North Africa.
Students have completed worksheets to ensure a better understanding of Ancient Egypt as well. When going over Southwest Asia and North Africa, students understood the economics, geographics and history of this topic. Moreover, students were given a map quiz to help them understand where countries are geographically. After completing a physical and political map, students were then given a Southwest Asia and North Africa test that shows their understanding.
4th Grade Creative Expression
Students have just completed giving their first speeches, which were “introductions” of themselves. Each day, students were either given time to work on their speeches, or work on activities to help them become an effective speaker. Moreover, our next activity is working on debates, as students will understand how to debate effectively with their peers.

Happenings in the Science Room
During the month of April the 4th graders were working on the weather unit. We learned about the water cycle, how we can predict the weather, how the wind speeds and direction are measured, the types of clouds, and what affects the weather globally.
In 5th grade we have been learning about the formation of the universe, stars and our solar system.
In 6th grade we have covered the digestive and nervous systems. To understand how food is digested, we had a lab recreating the different steps food go through before it is excreted.
Chemistry with the 7th graders was all about balancing equations and mole conversions, and the 8th graders wrapped up photosynthesis and cellular respiration.

5th Grade Introductory Technology II
The 5th Graders spent a good deal of time using TinkerCAD as we discussed 3D Design. The kids got the chance to make their own 3D Designs as well as participate in a design competition…creating a futuristic vehicle! The kids had a great time with this! We also discussed animation and watched a short video on Disney’s Animation and how it has changed over time. Then, we created our own animations using Google Slides. The kids created a scene on a slide, then copied the slide…made slight changes…and then when playing the slideshow, you’d see an animated image! The kids did a tremendous job!
We are now learning about web design and using Google Sites to make our own digital portfolios. We will close out the year by making Battleship Games using Google Sheets as well as making our own Pop Art pieces of artwork using Google Drawings.
6th Grade Advanced Technology I
In 6th Grade, we’ve been learning about coding and App Design. The past week, the kids have been building their own apps about book recommendations, biographies, or a topic of their choice. The kids did a great job of programming their apps. We are now working on Video Production as we continue to learn more about WeVideo and the different tools they have. We will also get the chance to record our own podcast to share with our friends, as well as other group activities to put our digital skills to use!

5th-8th Grade Social Studies News
Hello Families,
It’s been such a great school year and I am so proud of all of our students' hard work this year. Let’s end the school year on a strong note!
5th Grade Ancient World History
5th Graders have been hard at work the month of April. Students came back from break and studied the Byzantine Empire, Islamic Empires (Ottomans, Safavids, Mughals), as well as the Early African Civilizations of Ghana, Mali, and Songhai. We took a virtual field trip using Google Earth to explore the city of Istanbul (once called Constantinople) and had great discussions in class. This month, we are finishing our study of the Early African Civilizations before jumping into Early Americas and completing our end-of-the-year Research Project on the Aztecs, Incas, or Mayas. The kids will have one final project where they will create a Board Game using their research.
6th Grade World Geography
6th Graders have been working hard as they finished their unit on Sub-Saharan Africa. They’ve also been working on their own Video Project using WeVideo…which turned out amazing! Kids researched their own country and created a video about it, using images, video excerpts, and more. We are now finishing up our study of Southeast Asia, East Asia, and Australia before we close out the school year with Final Exams.
7th Grade US History
7th Graders spent the month of April finishing up our study of the Great Depression. Kids created their own “Alphabet Soup” about FDR’s New Deal Agencies and began to understand the impact the Great Depression had on the citizens of the United States in the 1930s. We are now studying World War II, paying close attention to the role the US played in the war and the effects of the war abroad and at home. We will then be studying the major events of the Cold War Era before prepping for Final Exams.
8th Grade Modern World History
The 8th graders are doing a great job…we just finished up our unit on World War II and are now studying the Cold War Era. We spent a few days discussing the Korean War, discussing the Truman Doctrine and debating the firing of General MacArthur as well. We are now moving into the Vietnam War before looking at other major events of the era, including decolonization.
Both 7th and 8th Grade classes produced their own Argumentative Research Documentaries using WeVideo on a historical topic of their choice. The students were required to use primary and secondary sources to form an argument about the past based on historical evidence…and put together a documentary to showcase their findings! The kids truly did an amazing job producing and editing their videos, many including excerpts from famous speeches of politicians and historians discussing the era as well. This was really a great learning experience for the students as they really brought history to life! Excellent job!
Final Exam Review Materials have been posted on the Google Classroom pages. I am proud of everyone’s hard work this school year. Let’s end the year on a great note!

Have a wonderful summer!

Updates from our spanish classroom
Spanish with Maestra Maria:
¡Hola familias!
We are getting close to the end of the school year. We are taking advantage of our last few weeks to continue learning a lot of Spanish.
As I mentioned in last month's newsletter, I started a very interesting project with students from the 3-6 and 6-9 programs. The project is about learning high-frequency words in Spanish through stories. We have finished the first story: "The Crocodile goes to the forest" (“El Cocodrilo va al bosque”) and the results have been amazing. The children learned the proposed vocabulary, then we read the story, did different activities to reinforce the language used in the story, and in the end, the children were able to tell the story in Spanish using their own words.
During these last few weeks, we will be working on a new story called "Monarch Butterfly, Bear, and Hedgehog" (“Mariposa Monarca, Oso y Erizo”)
In addition, in the 3-6 program, we worked with new weather vocabulary, body parts, movement verbs, animal vocabulary, days of the week, months of the year, numbers from 1 to 20, and reviewed colors. We also celebrated Earth Day by reviewing the expressions "I like" (“Me gusta”) and "I don't like" (“No me gusta”).
On the other hand, the 6-9 program has worked on spring vocabulary, weather and date, days of the week, and months of the year. We started a new project of creating a monster, working on the parts of the body. We are also creating the monster's personality by writing its name, birthday, age, favorite color, favorite food, and what it likes and doesn't like.
My 4th and 5th-grade students are working on Unit 4 of the book. They are learning to create sentences with the present tense of the verb "to go": "Yo voy", "Tú vas", and "Él/Ella va". They have learned vocabulary related to school parts and a series of verbs that we will learn to conjugate in the next few days. We have played many games to learn the new vocabulary, and they have been very effective.
I would like to wish you a wonderful summer. I hope you enjoy it very much with your family and children. We'll see you at the new school in August.
¡Feliz Verano!

Spanish with Maestra Alicia:
Hola Padres!
I hope this letter finds you well. I want to update you on the latest news from your child's Spanish class.
4th Grade
Recently, we have been focusing on the use of the verb "ir + a + infinitive" to talk about future activities. We have practiced constructing sentences such as "Voy a pintar en la clase de arte” (I am going to paint in art class); and "Voy a participar en la clase de espanol" (I am going to participate in Spanish class). The students have been working hard to grasp this concept and are becoming more confident in their ability to use this grammar structure correctly.
We also began unit 5, which includes vocabulary related to naming the seasons, describing different weather conditions and using the verb "gustar" (to like). The students have been learning how to use adjectives to describe the weather, such as "hace frío" (it's cold) and "está nublado" (it's cloudy). They have also been practicing using the verb "gustar" to express likes and dislikes, such as "Me gusta el verano" (I like summer) and “No me gusta el invierno” (I don't like winter).
We encourage you to support your child's learning by practicing these concepts at home. You can ask them about their plans for the weekend using the "ir a + infinitive" structure or talk about the weather using the vocabulary they have learned in class. These small conversations can make a big difference in helping your child feel confident with their language skills.
5th Grade
In our recent lessons, we have been focusing on the use of the verb ”gustar” (to like). Specifically, we have been learning how to use the pronouns me, te, and le in sentences with “gustar”. We have also been practicing using the verb “gustar” with singular subjects and using the personal "a" before people's names in sentences with “gustar.” Your child has been doing a great job with these concepts and we are impressed with their progress.
Additionally, we have begun our unit 5 which is called "¿Cuándo es tu cumpleaños?" In this unit, your child has been learning the months of the year and how to give dates. They have been practicing asking and answering questions about birthdays and important dates. We are excited to see their language skills grow in this unit.
Looking ahead, we will continue to work on unit 6 until the end of the school year. In this unit, we will cover adverbs such as siempre, a veces, and nunca to describe frequency. We will also focus on using singular pronouns for clarity and emphasis. We are confident that your child will continue to thrive and learn in these upcoming lessons.
6th Grade
In Unit 4 - Lesson 1, the students have been learning about communication and using stem-changing verbs e - ie to talk about their clothing preferences. They have been practicing how to use these verbs in sentences and how to conjugate them correctly. They have also been introduced to direct object pronouns, which help to simplify sentences. Direct object pronouns can be used to replace direct object nouns. Your children have been practicing using these pronouns in class to make their sentences more fluid and natural.
In Lesson 2, the students have been practicing talking about transportation and using stem-changing verbs o-ue to talk about things to do in the city. They have been learning new vocabulary related to different modes of transportation and popular attractions in the city. They have also been continuing to practice the use of stem-changing verbs e-ie, which they learned in Lesson 1.
Throughout the unit, the students have been actively engaging in class discussions, practicing their speaking and listening skills, and completing various assignments to reinforce their learning. We are proud of the progress they have made and their commitment to learning Spanish.
As the school year comes to an end, the students will continue to work on Unit 4 Lesson 2. They will be expanding their vocabulary, practicing their writing skills, and engaging in more complex conversations.
7th and 8th Grade
Currently, we are working on Unit 5 - Lesson 2, which focuses on communication. In this lesson, students are learning how to talk about what they and others do at parties. This includes learning key vocabulary and phrases related to parties “envolver los regalos" (wrap gifts), “poner las decoraciones” (put decorations).
In addition to learning how to communicate about parties, students are also learning about affirmative “Tu” commands in grammar. This is an important skill for students to develop as it allows them to confidently give commands to others in a positive and assertive manner. Students are practicing forming affirmative “Tu” commands through various activities, such as role-playing scenarios and writing exercises.
Moving forward, we will be working on Unit 6, Lesson 1 until the end of the school year. This lesson focuses on building vocabulary related to sports and sports equipment. Students will learn key terms for different sports and equipment, such as "fútbol" (soccer), "basquetbol" (basketball).
I hope that you find this update helpful and informative. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns about your child's progress in Spanish class.
