As we approach the final stretch of the school year, we couldn't be more thrilled about the incredible events and opportunities that await us at Kindi! With each passing day, we're reminded of the amazing journey we've had together, and we're excited to make the most of every moment leading up to summer break. Here's a glimpse of what's in store for the upcoming weeks:
1. Ramadan Iftar/Dinner Celebration on the night of March 22: Join us as we come together to celebrate the spirit of Ramadan with our annual gathering. It's a time for reflection, community, and gratitude, and we can't wait to share this special occasion with all of you. We will use this opportunity to support the children of Gaza who are in desperate need for food, water, medicine, clothing, and shelter. Let's come together to make this event a HUGE success. This event is open to all your family and friends.
Wisconsin Overnight Trip from April 17 to 19: Get ready for an adventure-packed trip as we embark on our much-anticipated Wisconsin trip! This year we are exploring Camp Timberr-Lee and are excited about the learning-in-nature opportunities it provides. This excursion promises to be both educational and unforgettable for our students and chaperones.
Re-enrollment and New Admissions: As we gear up for the next academic year, we invite you to secure your child's spot at Kindi by completing the re-enrollment process. Additionally, if you know families who are looking for a nurturing and enriching learning environment, we encourage you to spread the word about Kindi and help us welcome new members to our community. Let no one ever forget the high academic standards we provide and the exceptional learning experience our environment facilitate to students. We don't just graduate scholars, we shape LEADERS!
But that's not all! From end-of-year graduation celebrations to special projects, activities, and field trips, there's no shortage of excitement at Kindi. We're committed to making every moment count and creating lasting memories for our students and families.
As always, your involvement and support play a vital role in making Kindi the vibrant and thriving community it is. Whether you're volunteering for events, participating in fundraisers, or simply cheering on our students, your contributions make a difference, and we're immensely grateful for your partnership.
Let's make the rest of the school year one to remember! Together, we'll continue to inspire, learn, and grow as part of the Kindi family. Warm regards,
Hatem Elagha Executive Director Kindi Academy
Message from the Dean
Dear Eagle Family,
It’s hard to imagine there are only two more newsletters left for this school year. It seems like just yesterday kids were walking into our new building for the first time. It’s really true…time flies when you’re having fun…and there’s no place more fun than Kindi Academy!
The past few weeks have been busy with tons of activities around the school. Walk into a classroom and you’ll see all the fun that’s happening. 4th graders have been putting together a video rendition of their novel, How to Steal a Dog. 6th graders were presenting about their cultures in Geography class. 7th graders have been making propaganda posters as if they were living through World War I. Our Art classes have been creating AMAZING pieces of artwork! PE classes are engaging in great games of Flag Football in the upper grades. Walk into our Montessori rooms and you’ll see kids working hard using Montessori material to master their understanding of content. There’s always something great happening here at Kindi. No wonder I always say It’s a Great Day to Be an Eagle!
Besides the exciting academic happenings, Our MSA put together a wonderful Fundraising Dinner bringing together our community over a wonderful meal. Our Student Council put together an awesome Hot Chocolate (and Donuts!) Sale. These events are wonderful opportunities for these organizations to raise funds for various things that support the students and other events to bring them together! I thank our MSA and Student Council, along with their sponsors Ms. Sara Gazi, Ms. Maria Jameel, and Ms. Ella Abufeelat, for their hard work and dedication in bringing these events to life.
For this month’s theme, we will be focusing on optimism and positivity. This past week, I was talking with a few students about their homework for that week. One of the students had acknowledged that they had a few more assignments than typical for that day (I have flashbacks to my days in elementary school just thinking about the conversation!). Many students would say something like, ”Oh no, I have so much homework! This stinks!”. Instead, a student commented, saying, “If I finish my homework in my study hall period, then I can have more time to play games”. This is the positive mindset we want to instill in ALL our Eagles here at Kindi Academy…to try to find the good in any situation. As Winston Churchill once said, “the positive thinker sees the invisible, feels the intangible, and achieves the impossible”.
As always, I am here to support you and your child in any way possible. Reach out to me at [email protected] with any questions, comments, or concerns.
It’s STILL a GREAT DAY to be a Kindi Eagle!
Sevim Memisovski Dean of Students Kindi Academy

"The land is where our roots are. The children must be taught to feel and live in harmony with the Earth." ~Maria Montessori
The days are getting longer and spring is around the corner! February went as quickly as it came, but it was still a great month! First, we would like to thank all the parents for another round of successful parent-teacher conferences! We are very happy with how hard your children have been working, and it has been wonderful to see the progress they have made since the last conference!
February started off with Groundhog’s Day, and the news about an early spring did not disappoint! In the classroom, teachers presented parts of a groundhog, and the children learned how a groundhog, once it emerges from its burrow, is said to predict the weather for the following six weeks. Also, February marks National Children’s Dental Health Month, so teachers presented parts of teeth and parts of the tongue!
Another highlight in February was when SkyDome Planetarium visited Kindi! The kids had a blast journeying through space and learning all about it while never leaving school. They watched in awe as the stars, constellations, and planets illuminated the inside of the dome! Our next in-school field trip will be a juggling and balloon variety show!
With March on the move and spring around the corner, teachers will introduce life cycles of many different living things, such as frogs, chickens, ladybugs, butterflies, and more. Since spring break is only a few weeks away, the month of March will surely fly by too!

Updates from our spanish classroom
Spanish with Maestra Maria:
¡Hola familias! I hope you are enjoying this unusual month of February with good weather. Spring seems to be arriving early this year, and we are going to make the most of it.
In the 3-6 program, we concluded the Winter Unit by engaging in some review activities and watching the video "Winter with Timbo". All the students loved it and wanted to watch it over and over. We also conducted a Picture Talk using an image to review all the vocabulary learned about winter. Additionally, we worked with the book "Valentine's Day Party," where we learned animal vocabulary and the expression “I have” (Yo tengo). Using the song "Uncle Ramon Farm", we explored farm animals, and with the Yoga Zoo game, we reviewed zoo animals.
First-grade students also worked on the "Winter with Timbo" unit, but in more depth, focusing on writing and reading, working on seasons, body parts, and winter clothing. They also practiced the expression "I have" with the animal party book. Currently, we are focused on farm animals with the song "Uncle Ramon Farm", practicing the expression "There is" (Hay). We will conclude the unit with a small book that students will take home with the song lyrics.
Second and third-grade students created different winter stories and illustrated them. Afterward, they embarked on a project that occupied most of the month: Animals. We learned the names of 9 animals and began describing them using common words such as "It has" (Tiene), "It is of color" (es de color), and "It can” (puede). Additionally, they learned 4 action verbs (swim, run, jump, and fly) and reviewed big, medium, and small. After introducing all this, we engaged in two activities: "I Spy" (Veo-veo) where they read the animal descriptions, and others had to guess the animal; Tic-Tac-Toe, where they practiced speaking in Spanish and had to describe the animals before marking each square. It has been a very enriching and fun unit.
Fourth-grade students have been focused on learning Unit 3, which we have just completed. We worked on months, days of the week, "today," "tomorrow," and "yesterday" "this week" and ";next week," places in the city, and the verb "to go" in the present tense: I go (Yo voy), you go (tú vas), and he/she/you (formal) go (él/ella/usted va). We have started introducing the technique of acquiring the Spanish language with Comprehensible Input, and the 4th-grade class has adapted well and has been very motivated. Gradually, I will work with this technique in all units of "¡Viva el español". From a cultural perspective, we have explored the Unit on Mexico.
With the fifth-grade students, we have been working on Unit 7, and we are nearing the end of the unit; we will likely have the exam next week. We have focused on the verb "to have" (tener) in its different uses: to express feelings and to express "have something." We have worked with 10 expressions in Spanish that use the verb "to have.” We have learned to conjugate it in all three singular persons and have also learned to use it in asking questions. Additionally, we have worked on understanding the difference between "tú" and "usted." Like the fourth-grade students, we have begun learning through stories, and in the next class, we will practice a story related to the unit as a review for the exam.
Wishing you a good start to Ramadan. Spanish with Maestra Alicia: Hola & Hello Padres!
We hope this newsletter finds you well. We wanted to take a moment to update you on the recent happenings in our Spanish class.
5th Grade
Throughout February, we've been focusing on vocabulary related to questioning such as - ¿Cuál? ¿Adónde? ¿Quién? ¿Cuándo? ¿A qué hora? ¿Cómo? ¿Dónde? ¿Qué? These fundamentals allow students to engage in meaningful conversations about their and other’s daily routines. By putting these question words into context, our students have developed a deeper understanding of how to use them effectively in real-life situations. In addition, we've been focusing on enhancing your children's pronunciation and speaking skills. One exciting activity we undertook was a small dialogue presentation where students had the opportunity to showcase their abilities in a supportive and encouraging environment. From rehearsing their lines to delivering them with confidence, every student had a chance to shine and demonstrate their progress in speaking Spanish. The energy and enthusiasm in the classroom during these presentations was truly remarkable and it was evident that every student had a great time participating.
6th Grade Throughout the month of February, our focus was on mastering the essential concept of Noun-Adjective Agreement. This crucial aspect of English grammar teaches students how to effectively pair adjectives with nouns to create clear and descriptive sentences. Through various engaging activities and exercises, your child has successfully grasped the fundamentals of Noun-Adjective Agreement, marking the completion of Unit 1: Lesson 2. We're delighted to see their growth and understanding in this area of language. Our students then moved onto an exciting new unit with Lesson 1 titled "Somos estudiantes" (We are students). In Unit 2, your child has been introduced to a wide range of new vocabulary centered around themes such as time, school schedules, numbers, school subjects, and classroom activities. Through interactive lessons and activities, your child has been expanding their vocabulary and deepening their understanding of these key concepts.
7th/8th Grade In our recent lessons, we have been focusing on two important grammar topics: the verbs "saber" and "conocer" both of which mean "to know" in English. Our students have been learning the differences between these two verbs and how to use them correctly in sentences. We have been practicing through various exercises and activities to reinforce their understanding. Additionally, we have started a new lesson titled "La salud" (Health). In this unit, our students are expanding their Spanish vocabulary to include words and phrases related to activities for maintaining a healthy lifestyle and parts of the body. The enthusiasm about learning these new terms has been evident as students actively participate in discussions and activities related to the topic.
9th/10th Grade Unit 2: Lesson 1 was an exciting time for our students in February. The highlight was delving into the rich history of the World Cup soccer tournament. Exploring the origins, evolution, and cultural impact of this global event proved to be both engaging and educational for our students. It served as a wonderful conclusion to Lesson 1, sparking discussions and fostering a deeper appreciation for the world's most beloved sport. As we transitioned into Lesson 2, titled "¿Qué vamos a hacer?" (What are we going to do?), our focus shifted towards daily routines, personal care, and body parts. Throughout the month, students have been actively learning and practicing vocabulary related to these essential aspects of everyday life. From discussing morning or daily rituals to identifying different body parts, our aim has been to enhance their Spanish language skills while also promoting a deeper understanding of self-care and personal hygiene.
Spanish with Maestra Ashley: Spanish language students each chose a Spanish speaking country in which they researched, created a Google Slides presentation, and presented their reports to their classmates. This background knowledge provides our students with a deeper understanding of the countries’ culture and traditions. Our Spanish language learners have also begun to have beginning level conversations and are improving on their pronunciations. Thank you parents for providing support and extra practice at home!
