Hatem Elagha
Executive Director

Hello all. I am the Founder and Executive Director of Kindi Academy. I believe in the vast potential and intelligences embedded in each and every child. My goal is to unleash that power and bring those skills and abilities to the world. The school is built on that premise.
The school started as a home schooling project for my own children and grew into the school we have today. Many people say they get a family feel being around in the school. That feeling haven't evanesced through the years! Add that to a top quality academic program, and you have a magical recipe. This is what Kindi is all about!
I am married with seven children, three graduated from Kindi and two are current students. My oldest two missed out on the fun!
I love reading, food, being with friends, and travelling. I am proud of all my staff and they do a great job day in and day out. I hope to see you as part of the Kindi family soon!

Greetings fellow Kindi parents!
Hello, my name is Afshan Syeda, and I am the mother of three beautiful and adventurous kids!
I enjoy helping children reach their potential and feel content when they have their “ah ha- I got it” moment. My overall teaching experience with various age groups is about 8 years in a diverse portfolio. I am a Girl Scout at heart and a leader for that matter. My few years of Montessori experience led me to Kindi where I can grow with the school. Working with special needs at a therapy clinic taught me patience and perseverance in a rewarding environment. Saturday school teaching gave me the balance to help youth connect with their faith.
Thank you for trusting us with your precious ones. Excited for a year of fun and learning ahead!

Hello! I am very happy to be back teaching at Kindi. In my previous three years at Kindi, I taught Earth and space science, biology, advanced biology, chemistry and physics to middle school students.
Before deciding to become a teacher, I worked as a scientist in cancer and endocrine research at the University of Michigan after earning a degree in microbiology and chemistry from Eastern Michigan University. After becoming a mom to my two lovely children, I realized how much I enjoyed teaching, so I went back to university and got my education degree from Texas Woman’s University. For the last few years, I have been teaching science to children as young as two years old, up to middle schoolers. I love teaching science because it explains how everything works in this vast universe. I hope to instill in children of all ages a love for learning, respect for nature, and eagerness to always stay curious.

I grew up in Beirut, Lebanon. Then moved to live in Jordan when I got married. Twelve years ago I moved to Chicago with my husband and my kids, and now I live in Darien in a beautiful home. I have three kids, two girls, and one boy, and blessed with three beautiful grandkids that are very dear to my heart.
I love teaching and getting to know new students and growing with them. Each student is unique in their own way and it’s an honor to be part of their journey to nurture them and getting them ready for the real world.

Arabic and Religion

Hello and Salam, everyone! I’m honored to be an Arabic and Islamic Studies teacher here at Kindi Academy. I grew up in Amman, Jordan and moved to the U.S when I was about 17 years old. I live with my wonderful husband and beautiful daughter, Sara, who is a student at Kindi!
I graduated from Northeastern University with a Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature. However, teaching the Quran and Arabic has always been a passion of mine. I love kids and totally enjoy working with them while also learning from them. I worked as a private tutor for about 10 years and worked with so many lovely kids teaching the principles of Arabic and Quranic reading. My goal is to have kids master reading Arabic comfortably and passing it on to the next generations.
Away from school, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, and I really cherish good food.

Alicia Abu-Elreish
Spanish Teacher

Hola everyone! I was born and raised in Mexico City. I came to the United States in my early 20s to continue my University Studies. I majored in Teaching of Foreign Languages and spent the majority of my career teaching native Spanish speakers English as a second language and Spanish literacy. I have had the wonderful opportunity to volunteer with the Latino community and take on board roles with the Latino Muslims of Chicago. I am blessed with four supportive daughters who always keep me smiling. I believe that a classroom learning environment should promote fun, growth, and a sense of family. My classroom nurtures an environment conducive to learning and enjoyment. My goal is to help my students learn and start using Spanish in their daily life.

I love hiking, practicing yoga, traveling, learning about cultures, and spending time with my family.
I am happy to be a part of Kindi Academy School. My goal is for all my students to enjoy the Spanish language and culture, and to overcome the fear of speaking Spanish. My classes are based on the principles of Montessori education, learning by playing, and creating a pleasant environment for my students.

Sara Gazi
Art Teacher

Hola! I am very excited to be the Art teacher for your children at Kindi. I am a busy grandmother of two, mother of five, three young men and two thriving teenage girls who graduated from Kindi Academy. Hence how I became an enthusiastic active parent who just couldn't leave!
In my early years, my career path began in Architecture, swayed to Interior Design, Business Administration, Event Décor, Event Planning to then find myself back to my all-time passion, Art. And with great pride I find myself at Kindi Academy.
I have always been invested in the arts, my passions for the arts range from Fine Arts, Applied Arts and Performing Arts. I am a firm believer in children having a creative outlet to express themselves and achieve self-confidence,
creativity, and cultural awareness. They can do all of this through art. Art opens our minds and hearts and shows us what could be possible. Art taps on the creative side of the children's brain and their imagination to come up with an impressive piece, maybe even perfect, or as my students would quote me “Imperfectly Perfect.”
It is an honor to be a part of the Kindi staff and assist your children in learning and developing new skills.
