Hello Kindians,
As we close the chapters of this school year and reflect on all that we have accomplished together, I am filled with immense pride and gratitude. The achievements of our students, the dedication of our teachers, and the unwavering support of our parents and volunteers have truly made this year a remarkable success despite all the challenges we faced.

Each achievement, big or small, is a testament to your abilities and potential. Cherish the memories we've made together, for they are the stepping stones to a bright future.
As we look ahead to the next school year, I encourage each of you to dream big and never give up. Use the successes of this year as a springboard to reach new heights. Remember, persistence is key in pursuing your goals. Believe in yourselves and continue to strive for excellence.
To our graduates: Congratulations on reaching this important milestone! You have worked tirelessly to reach this point, and we couldn't be prouder of your accomplishments. As you embark on a new path in your learning journey, carry with you the lessons learned and the friendships forged during your time this year. Message from the Dean
Greetings Eagles,
It’s hard to believe this is the last newsletter of the school year. It’s true what they say…time does fly by when you’re having fun! I truly mean it when I say Kindi is the best place around…a strong, rigorous academic program along with fun experiences for our students, from field trips, Snack Carts, and Ice Cream Socials…to exciting projects in the classroom…there’s no place like Kindi Academy!
This month, our theme is Leaving Legacies. To this day, I remember a conversation I had with my third grade teacher. She asked us what we wanted to be remembered for on the last day of school. I still remember sitting there bewildered at the question. “I’m in third grade!”, I thought! What could I be remembered for. She then gave us all handwritten notes telling us what she would remember us for. For me, she wrote, “I will remember your kind heart, willingness to help out your peers, and your sense of humor”, qualities I like to think I still have to this day! I remember going up to her and saying, “Mrs. Weidler, what about my performance in school?”. She looked at me and said that my performance was peanuts compared to the qualities she listed. From that moment on, I focused my efforts on living up to those qualities and more that I knew would make myself and my parents proud. Now, granted, I still worked hard for my academics. But as I tell everyone, your academic performance will come, it’s much harder to teach respect, kindness, and empathy than it is to teach reading, math, and more!
So my message to you all this month is simple: ask yourselves how you want to be remembered. Think about all the ways we can do good, better ourselves, and do good for others. To this day, I couldn’t tell you a single field trip I took in third grade, but I remember clearly that conversation on the last day of school! Let’s leave legacies that will live on for generations to come!
Before we close off the year, I want to take a moment to thank our teachers for all of their hard work this year. I truly mean it when I say none of the work we do is possible without their dedication, collaboration, and desire to teach. I am proud to work alongside all of them to provide a stellar program for our Eagles. I also want to thank all the students. It takes a lot of hard work and perseverance to succeed at Kindi, and I applaud them all for their efforts this year, and look forward to celebrating them over the next few weeks. Finally, I thank you, the parents and community, for your continued strong support of the school’s mission and your dedication to ensuring a proper education for your children.
Thank you again for all you do!
It’s STILL a GREAT DAY to be a Kindi Eagle!

News from our 3-6 Classrooms
“The greatest sign of success for a teacher is to be able to say, ‘The children are now working, as if I did not exist.’”
~Maria Montessori
April was a quick month as we had two weeks off for spring break and Eid! The children were welcomed back to school with an amazing Eid party! They enjoyed jumping in a bouncy house, making crafts, coloring, getting their face painted, henna, petting farm animals, and devouring delicious ice cream from an ice cream truck!
This month we had two wonderful in-school field trips! The first one was a visit from Mark Nichols, who put on a fun puppet show for the children called, “The Magic Onion.” The second visit was from Mary Macaroni, and she put on a great show with songs, movement, dancing, magic tricks, and more! The children always have a blast when she comes to Kindi!
Earth Day was on April 22nd, so teachers discussed what items can be recycled and what happens to those items when they go to the recycling facility. They learned how to conserve the Earth’s energy and save water as well as how everyone, including themselves, can help make the Earth a better place to live!
All 3-6 children have been making great strides in academics, especially in reading! All of them have advanced in either blending or reading/comprehension, and we are so proud of how much progress they have all made! Our kindergartners have been learning many different grammar concepts, including nouns, verbs, adjectives, syllables, compound words, and homophones. In math, many children are working on subtraction and multiplication as well as adding four-digit numbers without regrouping. With spring in full bloom, the kids have been exploring many life cycles in science, including the life cycle of bees, butterflies, chickens, frogs, turtles, ladybugs, and plants.
With kindergarten graduation approaching at the end of the month, they have started practicing their class poems and songs that they will be performing on graduation day. These kindergarteners are looking forward to putting on a great performance and graduating to first grade!
This year went by fast, but we enjoyed every moment of it! We are truly proud of our Kindi kids and how much they have learned! We will miss them all greatly and hope to see them over the summer and next Fall!

Updates from Our 6-9 Classroom
“Imagination does not become great until human beings, given the courage and the strength, use it to create.”
Maria Montessori
Spring is finally here, and we’re looking forward to our summer break. Thank you to all of the parents for your support this school year. We couldn’t have done it without you. We have had so much fun teaching your children this year. It is a true blessing to have great students and families at Kindi Academy.
Our first grade students have been extremely busy with new presentations. The students are working hard and learning new concepts such as multiplication and division with our unique Montessori materials. They are enjoying adding and subtracting fractions with the understanding of materials. The students are continuing to write beautiful descriptive writing paragraphs. We would like to see them read and write beyond their school work. This is the best way for them to become confident writers. Grammar and word study exercises are an integral part of their work which will serve as a scaffolding for their future work. Projects of Social Sciences have created a new enthusiasm for their learning.
The second year students are working hard and have been introduced abstractly on their 2 digit multiplier with 4 digit multiplicand.problems. Division with 4 digit dividend with 1 digit divisor have been introduced with our special test tube division material. Students have been practicing narrative writing with the prompt cards. They are writing with introduction, detail and closing sentences. It is a treat to see their unique writing pieces. Social Sciences are an integral part of their work and they are striving to achieve their goals.
Our third year students are working on advanced math concepts abstractly which will serve as a strong foundation for the next year. Challenging fraction word problems, along with pre-algebra has been introduced. Students are working well on all the grammar, proofreading, vocabulary and reading comprehension exercises. They are excited to work on the Periodic Table, systems of the human body, United States of America: states and capitals, Government, and History of the U.S.A.
We will continue to do new presentations in the coming weeks of school. Additionally we will be reviewing all the work to enhance their reading ability, comprehension skills, and vocabulary. Please continue to do reading, writing practice, math facts, and times tables during the summer break.
Our Third Grade students are graduating. We have mixed emotions; we are delighted to see their accomplishments to step into their new educational journey with head high but we’re sad at the same time to see them leave our classroom. They will always be remembered with special memories.
We wish you a safe, relaxing and wonderful Summer Break!
See you next school year!

4th, 5th and 6th Grade English Language Arts Ms. Ashley
It is hard to believe we are fast approaching these last few weeks of school. Thank you for your continued support, collaboration and making sure your child arrives at school on time. The month of April had been short due to our relaxing spring break. However, in the past weeks we have begun reading new novels: fourth graders began reading The Lightning Thief, fifth graders are reading The Hatchet and sixth graders are eagerly reading the Hunger Games. We have additionally spent time practicing for the Iowa Basic Skills test and reviewing our mistakes in order to learn from our errors.
5th Grade English - Ms. Victoria
In April, we began our last chapter book journey for the year. This book lets us travel to
China, where we find a poor family that is desperate for fortune. We take a look a look
at old Chinese Folklore. With this book, we are engaged, in writing, comprehension,
inferences, and story plots with rising climax. Will we actually, meet the Man on the
Moon?
5th Grade English - Ms. Sameena
The fantastic students have been reading and writing reflections to enrich their vocabulary and comprehend the text to answer questions and solve problems on their own. They have presented their projects on different books that they read in an interesting way to highlight their learning! The learners are going to read a lot more to expand their vocabulary and language skills in the coming weeks to explore the richness of language and how it can add shine to their learning! Our classes are learning zones for everyone as they are engaging and enlightening for everyone. The fabulous students are learning to work in different groups and blooming together while learning important concepts! They are reading passages and writing about them and adding their own perceptions to brighten the text.
6th Grade English - Mr. Aukst
Students are currently working on figurative language through poetry. They are also reading their final
novel, A Wrinkle in Time. We have been working on vocabulary and will conclude vocabulary in a couple of weeks. We have also completed writing prompts. 7th Graders have just finished their unit on World War II, where we learned all about the events taking place in Europe leading to the conflict to begin, as well as how the United States got involved. We also debated the Atomic Bomb and whether or not it was necessary to use in war. Students are also finishing their Documentary Projects which will be presented in class this week. We will also be jumping into the Cold War, 1950s, 1960s and Civil Rights Movements before reviewing for Final Exams. I applaud our students for their hard work and dedication this year! Go Eagles!

AP US History & AP Human Geography
The AP Social Studies Courses at Kindi have been working hard in preparation for the AP Exams coming up soon. We’ve spent countless hours of class time reviewing material, practicing FRQs, and peer reviewing essays to ensure we are successful come AP Exam Day. Two full-length practice tests were administered at school and I’m proud to say, 95% of students scored a 3, 4, or 5 on those. I look forward to seeing how they do on the AP Exams!
After the exams, students will complete a Final Research Project where they will research either a critical issue in various countries (AP Human Geography) or a time-period in American history (AP US History) and create a Documentary Film. Students will present these in class. We will then review for Final Exams before closing out the school year. Great work everyone…your hard work has certainly paid off!

Updates from PE
The countdown has begun as the school year nears its end. With only a few weeks left, students are revisiting what was first established at the beginning of the year. Sports such as volleyball, basketball, soccer and more are at the forefront with the intention to maintain what was learned earlier this year.
With the weather changing for the better, students will indulge in outdoor play with more open space and fresh air. Elementary students were given prizes for the scavenger hunt winners, alongside 3rd grade who earned an ice cream party for good behavior.
It’s been a busy year at Kindi, looking forward to closing out the year on a high note, and prepare for an even better school year in August.

Updates from our spanish classroom
Spanish with Maestra Maria:
¡Hola Familias!
We've already reached the last newsletter of this term. We'll be on vacation in a few weeks, so I want to take this opportunity to explain how these last weeks of the term have been.
In the 3-6 program, we've continued working around Spring (the students have learned a song) and farm animals. We've started introducing food by practicing expressions like "I like," "I don't like," and "I love." Additionally, we've begun a project on the solar system, where they've learned basic vocabulary. We also celebrated Earth Day by discussing human actions that make the Earth "happy" or "sad."
The 1st-grade students have created a spring story by playing with dice. Moreover, they've worked on expressions like "I like," "I don't like," and "I love" in different sessions using traditional Montessori presentations with animal and food erasers, and also, with the "Storytelling Box," where we pulled out different surprise objects for the students to classify.
The 2nd and 3rd-grade students have also created their own spring story. We're currently working on the last story we'll practice this term, "Monarch, Bear, and Hedgehog," based on the migration of the Monarch Butterfly to Mexico during the cold months and back to the United States in spring. They've learned the necessary HFW (High-Frequency Words) to understand the story such as "can't," "wants," "doesn't like," "sees," "goes," etc., in addition to the story's vocabulary. We've already done various activities around the story such as memory games or an enjoyable yoga posture game. We'll continue working on reading and writing the story in the upcoming classes.
With the 4th-grade students, we've been immersed in learning and practicing how to conjugate verbs in the present tense in Spanish. They've practiced using different games, especially with the Blooket program, which they love. This way, we've reached the end of Unit 4, and they've already taken the corresponding exam. We've just started the last Unit of the term, focusing on seasons, weather, and the use of the verb "gustar" (to like).
The 5th-grade students continue working on Unit 8, focusing on studying the weather. Currently, the students are immersed in learning how to tell time in Spanish, using different methods and games in Spanish. Next week, we'll start practicing the different interrogative adverbs in Spanish, and we'll have the Unit 8 exam.
Best of luck to all families for the last month of the term!

Spanish with Maestra Alicia:
5th Grade
Throughout April, our fifth graders have been delving deeper into the Spanish language, exploring new vocabulary, and mastering essential grammar concepts. One of the key areas of focus has been on expressing likes and dislikes using the verb "gustar" (to like.) Your children have been practicing constructing sentences to convey their preferences, allowing them to express themselves more confidently in Spanish.
In addition to mastering "gustar," our students have been expanding their descriptive skills by incorporating adjectives such as "aburrido" (boring), "fácil" (easy), "fantástico" (fantastic), and more. These adjectives have helped them articulate their opinions and feelings with greater precision, enriching their communication skills in the process. As we end off this academic year we will complete unit 9.
6th Grade
Throughout April, the students have been focusing on building their language skills in Spanish. They have been learning how to talk about what they do and how often they do things using frequency adverbs and the present tense of -ar verbs.
In addition to learning new vocabulary and grammar rules, the students have also been practicing their speaking and listening skills through various interactive activities and exercises. These activities are designed to help them feel more confident and comfortable using Spanish in real-life situations.
7th and 8th Grade
Throughout April, our students were fully engaged in their learning, starting with a comprehensive review of Unit 6, Lesson 2. This review was focused on mastering the preterite tense of the -ar verbs, as well as the tricky -gar, -zar, and -car verbs. The students demonstrated dedication and perseverance, working diligently to strengthen their grasp of these important grammar concepts.
In addition to the review, our students also embarked on a new unit, Unit 7, which introduced them to exciting new vocabulary related to technology. They have been enthusiastic about learning these new words, which are not only relevant to their daily lives but also expand their understanding of the Spanish language and culture.
9th/10th Grade
In April, our 9th and 10th grade students focused on irregular "yo" forms of verbs in the present tense and the use of pronouns that follow prepositions. These topics are essential in building a strong foundation in Spanish.
Students learned that while most verbs in Spanish follow a regular pattern in the present tense, some verbs have irregular "yo" forms. For example, while the verb "hablar" (to talk) normally conjugates to "yo hablo," the verb "tener" (to have) conjugates to "yo tengo." This concept adds depth to their understanding of verb conjugation and allows them to express themselves more precisely in Spanish.
Understanding pronouns that follow prepositions is crucial for students to convey possession and express opinions. For instance, to say "for me" in Spanish, one would use the pronoun "para mí." This concept not only enhances their ability to communicate but also enriches their language skills.
Throughout the month, students engaged in various activities, such as interactive exercises, group discussions, and role-playing scenarios, to practice these concepts.
Spanish with Maestra Ashley:
¡Hola! Our Spanish language learners have completed Unit 2 in our textbook ¡Hola! . In the coming weeks we will prepare for our final exam which will be comprehensive. It is important that each child keeps track of their flashcards with Spanish vocabulary. We will make these in the coming weeks to prepare. Please, also remind your child if they are absent to check in with me upon their return.
