Message from the Director
Dear Kindi Community,
I hope this message finds you well.
I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the incredible giving projects we undertook in October and November. We had a wonderful Kindi’s Giving Baskets Drive where we collected 43 food baskets all with turkeys and supplies to feed about 8 people each. Your generosity fed at least 300 to 350 people. You should be proud of this collective effort. This was a time for us to express gratitude for the many blessings in our lives. I am definitely grateful for having such a wonderful group of families who form the Kindi community.
We also concluded a great Orphan Drive for the children of Gaza. Your contributions will support those grieving children who lost their parents in the current ongoing war on Gaza. The kindness demonstrated by Kindi’s families during this initiative was truly heartwarming and exemplifies the spirit of compassion that defines our community.
All your contributions made and will make significant impact, and I am proud to be part of a school where Giving knows no bounds.
As we wrap up the first semester, I'd like to extend my gratitude to each and every one of you for your ongoing support and involvement in our school's activities. Your dedication to creating a positive and nurturing environment for our students does not go unnoticed.
Looking ahead, the second semester promises to be a busy and exciting time for our school. We have several events and activities planned, including Bake Sales, Spelling Bee, Overnight Trip, and the School's Annual Dinner/Iftar function, indoor and outdoor field trips, among others. These events not only contribute to the holistic development of our students but also provide opportunities for us to come together as a community.
As we navigate through the second half of this school year, I encourage you to stay engaged and involved in your child's academic journey. Your support is invaluable, and together, we can make the remainder of the school year a truly enriching experience for our students.
Thank you once again for your continued partnership in fostering a positive and thriving learning environment for our students. Here's to a successful and fulfilling second semester!
Warm regards,

Message from the Dean
Greetings Eagle Family,
The month of December is always one of my favorites throughout the school year! Kids are working hard preparing projects and participating in great activities. Our middle and high school students are preparing for their Final Exams in just a few short weeks. We’re so busy and having so much fun throughout the school, we almost forgot about Winter Break coming up!
When I first wrote to you earlier this year, I mentioned our theme of teamwork. Every team deserves recognition for the great work that they do. I am grateful for the amazing team we have here at Kindi. We have a wonderful team of teachers that work hard, plan engaging lessons, and more importantly, care deeply about our kids! Our students are the best in the world…hard working, respectful, and willing to lend a hand when needed. And you, our Kindi Community, is made up of dedicated individuals that are supportive of the school and the mission we have here. Without all of you, this team would not be a team, so thank you for all that you do!
Before I end my message this month, I want to take a moment to talk about kindness with you all. I’ve always said that we have some of the kindest kids in the world attending school here! What intrigues me more is how natural it comes to our kids to just be kind to one another. However, there’s always room to grow and we all can use more kindness throughout our day. There’s so much we can do to encourage our children to make kinder choices:
As always, I’m so proud of all our students for their hard work and compassion. I’m honored to work amongst such dedicated educators, and I’m grateful to our parents and community for the continued support you show us all. You all really make Every Day a Great Day to be an Eagle!
Onwards! See you in 2024!

- Make caring for others a top priority! Talk to your child about the decisions they are making and challenge them to think about how their decisions affect others. Sometimes, especially on a team, decisions one person makes can have an affect on everyone!
- Give your child the opportunity to do something kind! This can be as simple as having them help a younger sibling with their homework, shoveling the driveway for an elderly neighbor (the snow will be here before we know it!), picking up chores around the house. There’s so many ways to be kind!
As always, I’m so proud of all our students for their hard work and compassion. I’m honored to work amongst such dedicated educators, and I’m grateful to our parents and community for the continued support you show us all. You all really make Every Day a Great Day to be an Eagle!

News from our 3-6 Classrooms
"Mistakes are proof that we are trying." ~Jennifer Lim
As the children work towards becoming more independent this time of year, we continue to set examples by showing them what to do. For instance, with the arrival of cold weather, children were shown how to properly hang up their coats, pull out the sleeves, and how to put on their coats. By leading as an example in the classroom, the children keep working towards building confidence and independence.
November wrapped up quicker than imagined, and we are quickly approaching the end of 2023! We discussed the parts of a turkey and talked about the story of Thanksgiving. We also talked about the importance of helping people who are less fortunate than us, which is one of the many reasons we contribute to the local food pantry every year. Thank you to all the families who donated food items so that we could put together Thanksgiving meal boxes for those in need. The children enjoyed decorating the boxes that were picked up by the Lisle Food Pantry. As a whole school, we were able to donate 41 boxes of food from Kindi to provide a delicious Thanksgiving meal to many families!
This month was our field trip to the DuPage Children’s Museum in Naperville and the children had a wonderful experience! They enjoyed many hands-on activities that the museum has to offer. The kids had an opportunity to make shadows on the wall, create bubbles of all sizes, build something out of wood and nails, play at the water table, learn about air and electricity, create a craft in the art room, and so much more! It is safe to say that everyone had a great time and a lot of fun exploring!
To start off the winter season, teachers will present the parts of a snowman, gingerbread man, poinsettia, and reindeer! Many of the practical life works and math counters are also switched out to go with the current season; this keeps works in the classroom exciting and new. The children have been working hard and many kids have mastered their sounds, started blending, reading Bob Books, or reading Primary Phonics books! Within the last few months, we have seen so much growth and are proud of all the hard work that everyone has put in! Even though the last few months have been hectic, it has been filled with fun and lots of learning! We look forward to winter break to rest up and be ready to learn more in the new year!

Updates from Our 6-9 Classroom
“The greatest gifts we can give our children are the roots of responsibility and the wings of independence".
Maria Montessori
The depth of our students' engagement in all the activities of class is preparing them to accomplish new challenges.
Our First year students are reading and working on analyzing the elements of a story. Students are reading text and practicing identifying the setting, characters, plot, problem, and resolution of the story. They are also excited about proofreading exercises and learning to apply these new grammar and editing skills to their writings.
In math, addition and subtraction with carry over and borrow using the stamp game is providing students the opportunity to internalize these concepts. Identifying and adding coins exercises have been introduced. Skip counting with bead chains is an ongoing practice.
In science, we have an ongoing study of vertebrates and fundamental needs of humans. Students are also enjoying learning about matter and the three states of matter with experiments and research work. This month we demonstrated how liquid water is frozen to become a solid (ice) and when the water is heated up to boiling, we can see the steam (gas) rise!
Our Second year students have been challenged to apply new vocabulary into their own creative stories. Proofreading and word study exercises are an integral part of their language exercises. They have built a foundation for the elements of the story from their first year lessons and preparing them for future writers.
Ongoing practice of addition, subtraction, and multiplication problems further solidify their learned mathematical concepts. They are excited to learn 2 digit divisor and 4 digit dividend with the stamp game. New geometrical concepts are being introduced as well to lay the foundation for future mathematical concepts.
In science, students are researching matter and the states of matter. They are also working on the parts of invertebrates with the ongoing planet and Fundamental Needs of Humans' projects.
Our Third year students presented their Native American research and dioramas to the class. They took pride in sharing their knowledge and hard work with their young classmates. Ongoing reading and writing exercises are providing them the opportunity to apply correct usage of vocabulary, punctuation, and spellings. Reading and writing creative stories is an integral part of our learning. The mastery for the elements of the story is evidently reflected in the final year of 6-9 class. Students are applying their cursive writing skills beautifully throughout their work.
In math, students are practicing to calculate area, perimeter, measurement, and addition and subtraction of fractions with unlike denominators using the lowest common multiple (LCM). Geometry lessons are building their foundation for future work. Students have been introduced to the conversion of improper to mixed fractions and vice versa.
In science, children are demonstrating their skills in research work focused on matter and the states of matter.
Students are enjoying art work projects with their integrated learning.
All our students have extended their learning from their timeines to reading biographies and connecting with famous people is a treat to see!

The laboratory has been overflowing with experiments. We have been consumed with Matter!!!! What is matter? Matter is anything that takes up space. The students learned about 4 types of matter. Matter is a solid, liquid, gas, or plasm. We have also learned about the changes in matter and how they can affect matter. We did some experiments that showed how air is a gas through a balloon experiment, how a water bottle (solid) put inside a bowl of water makes the capacity of the water rise, and how if we oxidize a penny it will turn green like the Statue of Liberty

AP US History
Our AP US History students have been hard at work as we’ve learned about the history of our nation. The students finished our unit on Expansion and now are learning about the Civil War and Reconstruction. Students created slideshows on the various battles of the Civil War and presented them to the class. We’ve also worked on our historical writing skills with another LEQ arguing about the extent to which the debates over slavery in the 1830s-1860s led to the onset of the Civil War. Soon we will be completing a DBQ Essay on Reconstruction- using primary documents to form arguments about the past, and then learning about the Gilded Age before Final Exams!
AP Human Geography
Our 9th graders have just finished learning about Language and have now been studying Religion. Students researched one of the major World Religions and created slideshow presentations to teach their peers about that religion. We will now be learning about Ethnicities and Race and how this all plays a role in the cultural landscape. Students will also be putting together presentations about the culture of their choosing (either their own or a different culture) and discuss the elements of culture, language, religion, ethnicity, and more. Final Exams are also coming up at the end of December and I look forward to seeing the students end the semester on a strong note!

Updates from our spanish classroom
Spanish with Maestra Maria:
¡Hola Familias!
We are already very close to the halfway point of the school year and the Winter break. The course is well-advanced, and students are progressing well in learning Spanish.
In the 3-6 program, we have continued learning about family members by playing with characters from the "Madrigal Family" in the movie "Encanto." Additionally, we have continued working with farm animals, introducing a new one: the turkey. We've explored the story "Turkey Prepares His Favorite Pie," engaging in various activities related to the characteristic animals of Thanksgiving celebrations, such as songs and different games. Furthermore, we've covered the alphabet, body parts, colors, weather, and numbers...
In the 6-9 program, 1st-grade students worked on the story "I Like to Travel with Calamito" and completed mini-books for further practice at home. We discussed the 21 Spanish-speaking countries, and students decorated the classroom with flags from these countries. They also worked on writing the days of the week and started activities related to the story "Lola the Squirrel."
Students in 2nd and 3rd grade worked with sentences involving the days of the week, the expression "I like," and 7 verbs in Spanish. They wrote various stories about autumn, playing a game where they rolled dice to build the story. All groups finished the mini-books about "Calamito." This week, we'll start preparing the vocabulary for the new story "Monarch, Hedgehog, and Bear."
All 6-9 program students participated in a Thanksgiving-related activity where they wrote things they were thankful for on tree leaves. Afterward, they decorated the classroom with these tree leaves.
4th-grade students took the Unit 1 test from our book "Viva el español," and the results were fantastic. Now we're working on Unit 2, focusing on vocabulary related to colors, shapes, and animals. We're working on coordinating articles, nouns, and adjectives through games and different dynamics in the class. Students have also used their computers to reinforce what they've learned.
5th-grade students remain highly motivated and are progressing well in spoken Spanish practice. They've completed Lesson 5 and are now halfway through Lesson 6 in the book "Viva el español." We're working on dates, months of the year, and important dates like birthdays or Ramadan. We're about to start learning new verbs to continue practicing the verb "to like" and expressions like "Me too" and "Me neither." Students in 5th grade are also learning through games and computer use.
I take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy Holidays! I hope you enjoy your time with your children during the Winter break.
¡Hasta pronto!
Spanish with Maestra Alicia:
Dear Parents of our Amazing Students,
I trust this message finds you well. As we approach the middle of the school year, I am delighted to share some exciting news about the progress our students have made in their Spanish class.
5th Grade
In recent weeks, our 5th graders have successfully completed Unit 7, which focused on mastering the verb "tener." This verb is used to express possession, allowing students to articulate statements like "Yo tengo un libro" (I have a book) in Spanish. Alongside mastering "tener," our students have also learned how to use "tu" and "usted." They now understand that "tu" is used in informal situations, such as with friends and classmates, while "usted" is reserved for more formal interactions, such as addressing adults or less familiar individuals. Soon, our young linguists will embark on Unit 8, where they will expand their vocabulary and explore new words and expressions. Congratulations to your children for their efforts and dedication during Unit 7. We look forward to continuing this exciting journey with them in Unit 8.
6th Grade
Throughout November, our focus in class was on mastering essential grammar concepts. The students delved into the usage of the verb "ser de + location" to express where someone is from. Additionally, we explored the intricacies of the verb "gustar + infinitives," providing the students with a solid foundation for expressing likes and preferences. Moreover, we introduced the concept of the personal "a" when referring to people, emphasizing its importance in Spanish language usage. We have successfully completed Lesson 1 of Unit 1 and as we turn the page to December, our focus will shift to vocabulary in Lesson 2.
7th & 8th Grade
Throughout this month, we immersed ourselves in Spanish grammar. I am pleased to inform you that we have successfully completed Lesson 2 of Unit 5. In this section, we delved into irregular verbs that add a special touch to conjugation: dar (to give), decir (to say), poner(to put), salir (to leave), traer (to bring), and venir (to come). Additionally, we ventured into affirmative "tú" commands. Another milestone achieved this month was the incorporation of the structure "acabar de + infinitive." This allows students to express recent or just-completed actions, adding an interesting temporal nuance to their communication in Spanish. With the month coming to an end, our Spanish learners are gearing up to embark on Lesson 1 of Unit 6.
9th and 10th Grade
In November, our students embarked on Unit 1, Lesson 2, delving into the world of describing vacation activities and lodging. They can now express themselves when discussing their experiences and preferences related to vacations. They have also grasped the art of asking questions in Spanish by understanding and implementing interrogatives. Students explored the past tense, focusing on the pretérito of -ar verbs. They learned irregular verbs by memorization and effective conversations using irregular verbs such as ir, ser, hacer, ver, and dar.
