We are having a great year! We have a wonderful group of parents, students, and staff. I definitely feel the positive energy flowing in the air through the whole school. This climate takes me back to the times when Kindi started few years ago. It is fantastic to have this feeling again.
I am proud of starting our fully web-based digital newsletter. The information here will be accessible anytime and anywhere from any device without downloading the letter as used to be the case in the past. We can reach you, the parent, in a more efficient way. Many parents are aware of the news of their child's classroom, but have little knowledge of what happens in other grades. This Newsletter fills in this gap. I hope that you enjoy it. We would be very interested in hearing your opinion and ideas.
The school's staff are always working on improving Kindi's environment through interesting and enjoyable activities for our students. We started our Parents' Engage Series this year as well. Our goal is to promote the awareness and engagement level of our parents. An active parent is more understanding of the child's needs and the school's offering than a disengaged parent. I have to say that we are seeing a tick up in volunteering activity across a broader cross section of families compared to past years where few families only carried out most of the volunteering effort. This is a great trend and I hope it continues. It is impossible for any school, whether private or public, to perform all its functions without help from its parents.
Before I end, I have to thank all the students, teachers, and parents who made the Winter Celebration this year a great success. I felt great satisfaction with the high level of performance from our students. They have a lot of talent stored in them and it is our mission to explore and develop all aspect of that amazing reservoir.

Happening of the Montessori Toddler

The Toddler classroom provides countless opportunities for the child to work independently and fully concentrate and become more joyful at their daily activities. Our students have been occupied with sand paper letters. Language is learned through many outlets such as through using vocabulary cards, spindle work, and working with numbers with counter, exploring with boards books and puzzles. Our students also have been working with transportation materials such as cars, trains, pulling and pushing models. They are enjoying circle time as we read stories and sing along songs. Through these activities they recognize new words. Their favorite activity to do in the morning is to feed Coco(fish). Art for the toddler is first sensorial experience. They enjoyed our special art work (window art). Making playdoh, puzzles, singing with Rhythm sticks and games is also used while our toddlers practice enhancing their small motor skills. We love to spend time outdoors and explore with sand as we try to make castles and play lots of fun games.

News From The Montessori 3-6

We've had a great first half of the year. The children have been working on various projects and topics. In one project, we collected different kinds of leaves, observed their sizes, shapes and discussed them. We also talked about Christopher Columbus and his journey to America.
We introduced the flags and animals of different countries in North America continent. We also plan to start to explore the map of USA. In November, we read books about pumpkin and talked about the life cycle of the pumpkin. The children enjoyed the Character day on October 30th. They utilized the opportunity to share their thoughts and learn from their friends. We participated in the Thanksgiving Drive and talked about this American holiday and its importance. Our children participated fully in the Winter Celebration and performed wonderfully. We are fully engaged in academics now and the children and improving at a great pace. News From The Montessori 6-9 (Lower Elementary)
In the first half of the year, the First Year students worked on Native American research, Vertebrate/ Chordate classification, The Year and its Parts, Botany Chart and Leaf Cabinet. The Second Year students worked on North America country research. They partnered up with the fourth and fifth graders and worked on how to do research using the computer. The third year students worked on Europe country research, Timeline of Life, Golden Bead Frame multiplication, common multiples and introductory paragraph. Third years partnered up with the Upper Elementary in our science class to discuss flights and making parachutes.
We are fortunate to enjoy the Time for Kids magazine in our classroom. We have great discussions about different events occurring around the world with our students. Please encourage your children to bring in news and participate in the class discussion. Our children were very excited about the Winter Celebration and performed well. We are proud of them! We are fully focused on honing all the skills needed for each grade and on preparing our students for the next level. The students are working hard on their assignments and learning fast. Our Accelerated Reading program is a hit! The students are extremely engaged in reading and are racing to get the points. Some already gained their prize: Spirit Day of their choice! News From Upper Elementary (4th & 5th Grades)

In the first half of the year, the 4th and 5th graders have done a phenomenal job of working together to recreate two of the historical areas we learned about in class. The 4th graders created a Northeastern Region diorama where they had to include how life used to be prior to the European settlement. As for the 5th graders, their historical diorama dealt with the recreation of the Loyalists versus the Patriots Battle at Yorktown. They had to be sure to work together and learn how to appreciate differences in opinions in order to have effective collaboration. Their lessons on the United States history proved to be very intriguing as well as very fascinating to learn and comprehend.
Additionally, although their final project took a long time to make, the 4th and 5th graders learned how to formulate an effectively written introduction and conclusion paragraph, developing varied sentences that required them to know about transitional words / phrases as well as transitional sentences. They learned when it was necessary to use transitional sentences in order to bridge the gap from one body paragraph to another. We read few novels and fully dissected them. The students answered in full pages some of the questions posed, and had the chance to relate situations to their lives and current events. My students and I will be learning about how to use a process of cognitive restructuring to help them learn how to deal with normal adversities such as rejection from peers, not doing as well or performing as they would have liked for an academic or social situation, and being able to still accept themselves unconditionally despite others' opinions. They will practice and rehearse how to challenge their negative way of thinking to help them have better self-regulation and emotional control and management. These are the foundation of the Life Skills Model. These will be easily implemented into our normal and daily activities in and out of the classroom situation. News From Middle School (6th - 8th)

We had a very busy first half of the year for our Middle School students. Our 7th & 8th graders have become expert historians of many ancient civilizations. They have built pyramids and sarcophagi and most recently have studied a few of the world religions. They have competed in numerous simulations that got them thinking like someone who lived during ancient times!
Out 6th graders have become expert historians on the idea of Progressiveness and Big Business. They have developed their own businesses complete with a product and all! We put on our military helmets as we studied what it was like in the trenches of World War I! In Language Arts, the entire Middle School has read numerous genres such as fantasy fiction as we delved into The Hobbit . We discussed the figurative language that appears within the novel, such as personification, similes and metaphors. We are continuing our reading of other novels and with our quarterly writing projects. We are hoping to compile the students writings in a binding towards the end of the year. Our students, along with Upper Elementary, carried out a great show on Winter Celebration day. They worked hard to practice along with their load of academics. This is a great bunch! According to Kimberly Sheridan, Ed.D., coauthor of Studio Thinking: The Real Benefits of Visual Arts Education, “”It’s not as easy to test the skills that children learn from the arts, but that doesn’t make them any less important”. She noted though that participating in a school arts program increases a child’s ability to Observe the world carefully and discard preconceptions in order to envision something and then create it. Students also go beyond just learning a skill to expressing a personal voice. They learn to problem-solve and persist despite frustration and setbacks, and finally to reflect on the results and ask what could improve them Check some of our artist's at work. |
News From SpanishEspañol en noviembre…
In Spanish class the 3-6 year olds are prepared for the winter celebration by learning words and motions to a beautiful lullaby. “Arrorró Mi Niño” (Rock-a-bye, My Child) is a traditional lullaby sung throughout the Spanish-speaking world. In addition we are learning clothing vocabulary and expressing likes and dislikes with “(no) me gusta.” First, second, and third year students learned a lively and challenging song called “A La Víbora De La Mar.” This popular and traditional song-game is sung and played across Mexico on school playgrounds as well as at wedding receptions! First year Spanish students are expanding their clothing vocabulary and adding descriptive words in sentences. Second and third year Spanish students are learning animal vocabulary and applying grammatical rules for article-noun-adjective agreement. |

News From Gym & DramaIn Drama, the students worked hard on the Winter Celebration that took place on Wednesday, December 16th. The Magical Land of Oz, performed by the 1st through 8th grade students, took them on a ride through Munchkins Land, The Poppy Fields, The Forest of the Fighting Trees and the Emerald City. All the students were great and performed with confidence; a major objective of Drama classes.
In gym, we continue our lessons of different sports and we are finishing up Soccer with grades 4-8. EventsKindi Academy is deeply involved in our community. We collected food items to be donated to our local food pantry. Our students also participated in decorating our Thanksgiving baskets.
