Message from the Director
Hello Kindians,
As we start another new year at Kindi, I would like to wish everyone a prosperous and happy year full of success, wellness, and accomplishments.
Many people start the year with promises they vow not to break and goals they promise to achieve. While this is a great start for a new year, I do believe that it rarely works and many never reach that finish line for their aspirations. Their goals are set far from the reality they live in and the habits they developed. Their goals seem to be detached from their lifestyle and more importantly overestimate their will to change. Because change takes time and it may be a painful process, it is always advised that families start forming meaningful life habits for their children while they’re young. Abrupt changes can be stormy and less long-lasting. Those landmark days such as the new year and birthdays can be looked at as starting points for the change and not when the change itself will take place. Our staff and I are more than happy to work with families to inflict a positive change on their child’s behavior and habits. We want all our students to be successful and proud of themselves.
We have a second half of a year that is teeming with functions and events. From Spelling Bee to Volleyball tournament games to Bake Sales to Spring Celebration to Wisconsin’s NCI Trip to Graduation Ceremonies among many more events, we have not a minute to spare. We all need to gear up to start an exciting and fun 2023. We need the support of everyone at Kindi.
This years marks our 14th year serving the community. I would like to thank all the parents who supported us throughout those years especially those valuable and dear families who’ve been with us since DAY ONE. You are the foundation of Kindi’s success and we are honored and humbled by your confidence and continuous support. Sincere and heartful thanks to you and keep us in loop on the happenings of our amazing graduates.
Happy New Year!

“One of the greatest discoveries a man makes, one of his great surprises, is to find he can do what he was afraid he couldn't do.” – Henry Ford
Happy New Year and Welcome Back, Eagles! I hope everyone had a wonderful Winter Break and you are all ready to get back into the swing of things. Winter Break is a wonderful time for rest, relaxation, and spending quality time with family and friends. Now, our hard work continues!
This month, our theme is Be Brave…Dream Big! I am always so astonished by the dreams and aspirations our students have for themselves. When asking students about what they want to be when they grow up…I hear everything from doctors, lawyers, business owners, surgeons, engineers, and so much more! We always have to Dream Big for ourselves and have high expectations for ourselves in life, and this is something that will take center stage in our SEL classes this month.
We will also be talking about bravery, bringing in lessons about Martin Luther King, Jr. and his work for Civil Rights. We want our students to be brave for what is right and fair in the world. This happens on a smaller scale in the classroom, where students become upstanders when another child may be treated unfairly, or be brave enough to do something they may have been afraid to do before.
As Ted Kennedy famously said, “the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die”. Thank you all for all you do for our students and the Kindi Community. I look forward to SOARing to new heights in 2023.
As Always…GO EAGLES!

News from our 3-6 Classrooms
"Childhood is not a race to see how quickly a child can read, write, and count. Childhood is a small window of time to learn and develop at the pace which is right for each individual child." ~Maria Montessori
Welcome back and happy new year! We hope everyone had a relaxing winter break and enjoyed time with their families!
December was a shorter month, but we presented parts of a gingerbread man and parts of a reindeer. The children enjoyed making these booklets and labeling the different parts. We also had a fun visit from Mrs. Fergus, the librarian from Indian Prairie. She read a lovely story called, "The First Day of Winter" by Denise Fleming and did a snowman craft with the children.
With the spring recital approaching in March, the children from all three classrooms started practicing their songs early! We will continue to practice with them leading up to the program.
In January, the kids will pick up where they left off, academically. We will present parts of a snowman and penguin as well as discuss how some animals hibernate, adapt, or migrate in the winter. Also, we will start the new year off with a visit from Dave's Reptiles where children will get an opportunity to see real-life reptiles and learn all about them!
We look forward to finishing the second half of the year strong with lots of fun!

Updates from Our 6-9 Classroom
“Children acquire knowledge through experience in the environment.”
Maria Montessori
Our students started the New Year with a great vigor and enthusiasm which is leading them on the path of love of learning and success.
Our First year students have adapted the class routines gracefully. Learning to be organized and time management skills are an important part of their learning. They are enjoying their reading comprehension, the first lesson of sequencing the words in alphabetical order (preparation for how to use a dictionary for future), categories of nouns and understanding of verbs and their function. Creating sentences is an integral part of their English language learning which continuously helps in good sentence structure. They are excited about advance rounding off numbers, and 4 digit addition with carry over. They have been introduced the concept of fractions. Ongoing understanding of money, time and fractions will serve as a scaffolding for their future concepts.
They love to make their projects and show the quality work.
Our Second year students are working hard with the advanced concepts. They are showing a mature attitude towards their work and continue to produce quality work. Introduction of higher concepts of punctuation and grammar are making them proficient in their proofreading and editing skills. Ongoing reading comprehension exercises will help them apply analytical skills.
Students have been introduced to 4 digit multiplicand with 1 digit multiplier with our special math material. Continuous practice of word problems are a great tool for exercising their computation and critical thinking skills. They are excited to practice times tables and understand the correlation of math concepts.
Students are enjoying learning the map skills and their projects of Fundamental Needs of Humans.
Our Third year students continue to show responsibility and passion to enhance their critical thinking skills. Understanding, interpreting and applying their knowledge on how to follow directions has planted a seed to polish their independence. Editing, proofreading and ongoing grammar work are a continuous practice to improve their writing skills. Students have been introduced to the abstract multiplication and division concepts to solidify the concrete learning. They have introduced the Greatest Common Factor (GCF) with a review of LCM. This has led them to add and subtract mixed fractions.
They will be learning animal and plant cells which will build the future concepts. Children are demonstrating a high level of work in producing social sciences projects.
"Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare it for today".Sincerely,

Updates from 4th Grade
4th Grade English Language Arts and Reading
The 4th graders continue to show their dedication to growing. Students are continuing to work on their spelling and widening their vocabulary. Students have approached vocabulary by using our spelling books and have classroom discussions. Students have also been working on differentiating proper and common nouns, adjectives, and pronouns. We also have been working on paragraph structure. As I always tell the students, the best way to get better at anything is to practice.
Students have been broken up into two reading groups which are reading both amazing books titled Wonder and A Whole New Ballgame. Both books have similar themes such as acceptance of others' differences and friendship. Students are having engaging discussions to help them understand the book. Students have been answering hard hitting questions to make sure they are truly understanding the book and are improving on their reading comprehension.
4th Grade Social Studies/World Regions
The 4th graders have finished learning about the United States of America. Students. They learned about the causes of the CIvil War and how the war was inevitable. Students showed such passion and excitement learning about the events that shaped our nation. Students now are learning about our neighbors to the North(Canada) and to the South (Mexico). We learned about these countries' histories, cultures, government and way of life. Students also are improving on their map skills as they have to complete both political and physical maps. Students are enjoying our trip around the world.
Happenings in the Science Room
The month of December was all about energy for the 4th graders! They learned and experimented with different types of energy. For potential and kinetic energies, they made catapults and explained how the potential energy in the rubber bands and spoons got converted to kinetic energy as they utilized the catapult. They also got to taste some chemical energy as they made ice cream and understood how salt acted with the ice lowering the temperature so the chemical reactions with the ice cream ingredients caused them to form delicious ice crystals!
In the 5th grade classroom we learned about rocks and minerals, the differences between them, their composition and classes. We also studied how the rock cycle through a series of processes creates and transforms the types of rocks in Earth's crust. Then the kids got to recreate the rock cycle using pressure, heat and then cooling the "rocks" to produce an edible treat.
After having learned the basics of genetics and heredity, the 6th graders tested their understanding by creating a DNA molecule made up of two linked strands that winded around each other, and pairing the bases to resemble the twisted ladder of the double helix.
As the year progresses, the 7th graders studied the different characteristics of acid and alkaline solutions and how pH and pOH are related, by testing different foods and household products. The 8th graders got to wind-down the physics unit by learning and solving problems about elastic and inelastic collisions, and preparing for the finals.

4th Grade Introduction to Technology I
We certainly closed out the semester with some fun projects! Students got the chance to research a U.S. President using online sources. We discussed the differences between credible and unreliable sources, as well as discussed the right way to conduct a Google Search. Then, the students compiled their research findings and made their own biographical website using Google Sites. I am so proud of the progress all the kids made this semester in Tech Class- I look forward to teaching them again next year!
5th Grade Speech Class/Creative Expression
As Creative Expression comes to an end, students have proven themselves on the way to being great public speakers. Students had to work on an instructional speech where they had to teach the class how to do something. We were taught about how to make sandwiches, decorate cookies, make slime, and other things as well. For the rest of the time students played different speech games to help gain the confidence to public speak.
6th Grade Drawing Class/Art
6th grade students continued their artistic journey in drawing. Students had to create two different types of trees, one realistic and one fiction. Students got to pick different art mediums which included pencils, colored pencils, or oil pastels. Students got to be creative and draw something that inspired them. Then for fun students got to create something using a fusion generator. This generator took two different random ideas to put together and create something fun.
7th & 8th Grade Advanced Technology II
The kids did an amazing job in class this quarter! We focused the last few weeks on Video Production and Editing using WeVideo. Students first created their own video to enter a fictional cooking contest. Then, they created Movie Trailers for the scripts from their Creative Expression class Final Project. It was wonderful seeing previews for such wonderful scripts! The kids worked well together and spent time filming and editing their videos to add sound effects, text, backgrounds, and more! I am very proud of all the work they did in Tech Class, and wish them luck in Financial Literacy!
5th-8th Grade Social Studies News from Mr. Memisovski
Welcome Back and Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful Winter Break and everyone is ready to get back into the new semester.
5th graders completed their units on Ancient China and a study of the Ancient Hebrews before Winter Break. Students got the chance to learn about the different traditions in Judaism and presented their findings to the class. We will spend some time reviewing what we studied in the first semester before jumping into our unit on Ancient Greece this week.
The 6th-8th Graders did a great job on their Final Exams. We will spend time reviewing their results and making goals for the new semester. 6th grade students completed their unit on Europe- where they had to create their own travel websites about a European country and present their findings to the class. This week, we will begin our unit on Russia and the former Soviet Republics- spending time looking at the physical geography, history, as well as current events with Russia and Ukraine.
7th grade students finished their unit on the Civil War and Reconstruction before break. We did an introductory exercise on DBQ Essays, and I look forward to seeing them progress on this important skill of document analysis and forming arguments using historical evidence as the year continues! We will now be studying Life in the West, Industrialization, the Immigration Boom at the Turn of the Century, and American Imperialism during the month of January!
Our 8th graders have completed their study of the Industrial Revolution and created their own original inventions in the spirit of industrial leaders! We are now going to be jumping on to the rise of democracy in the 1800s as well as Imperialism during the month of January.
I look forward to all that 2023 brings to us! Good luck to everyone in the new year!

Updates from our spanish classroom
Spanish with Maestra Maria:
Happy New Year families!
I hope all families have had a great Winter break. In Kindi's Spanish classes, we start the year with great enthusiasm and with the desire to continue learning.
All of my Spanish students are working on the songs for our Spring Celebration. The students seem to like the Spanish song chosen for each program, and they sing and dance with great joy. We still have two months to continue working.
In the 3-6 program we have begun to work on winter vocabulary, especially the clothes we wear during this season. We have also worked with the vocabulary of the song of the Spring celebration, related to kitchen utensils. Other topics worked on during the classes have been: parts of the body, farm and zoo animals, numbers, the family, days of the week, months of the year, the alphabet, and the weather.
In the 6-9 program we have continued working with the position of adjectives in Spanish, the classification of words according to the sound of the vowel letters, and the family working with the question, how many brothers do you have? (speaking and writing) and we have learned the name of the different sports playing Bingo.
The 4th and 5th-grade students continue to work on Unit 2 of the book ¡Viva el español! working with colors, animals, and basic shapes. They have learned to describe objects and animals using adjectives such as big, small, long, short, skinny, and fat. We have worked a few days together with Maestra Alicia's students to prepare our Spanish song for the Spring celebration.
I wish all families a wonderful year in 2023.
¡Hasta pronto!

5th. Grade
Students have learned the singular present tense forms of the verb "ir a" (to go to) to ask and tell where they are going in school. They are also learning verbs related to classroom activities, such as "pintar" (to paint), "estudiar" (to study), and "usar la computadora" (to use the computer).
6th. Grade:
During the short month of December, the students focused on building vocabulary for foods and beverages in Unit 3, Lesson 1, and also began learning interrogative words such as "como?" (how?), "que?" (what?), "por que?" (why?), "quien?" (who?), and "donde?" (where?). They also reviewed Unit 2, Lessons 1-2, in preparation for their final.
7th./8th
In our 7th/8th grade class, we have been learning about stem-changing verbs. These are verbs that have a spelling change in the stem (the part of the verb that remains the same in all forms) when conjugated in certain tenses or moods. It's important to pay attention to the spelling changes when conjugating these verbs to ensure accuracy in your communication. They keep up the hard work as we continue to learn more about stem-changing verbs and other aspects of the Spanish language, while they review for their final exam.

Salam from Quran and Islamic department:
We ask Allah (set) to shower all our families with barakat and bring the best in this new years and many many years to come.
Our students did their best to memorize the Quran assigned for them in the first semester, we are so proud of those young Muslims.
To encourage our students to continue working on their memorization we have the tree that produced the fruits of Quran.
For our Amanah ( trust) project which we carried at the end of the last week, our students Masha Allah, showed an awesome turn back, by keeping their packages unopened and untouched. We are proud of them.
Arabic:
عام جديد وسعيد.
Coming back from the winter break, energetic and on full swing. Our students showed an amazing ability to catch up, due to the new platform ALIFBEE that kept them connected to the language.
We started by reviewing the last unit, ready to start new units.
As an example, our fifth graders were reviewing the use of pronouns with the hobbies unit, while present tense.
They were amazing in forming a complete stance.
