Toddler April Newsletter
We are happy to welcome spring and are thrilled to be able to spend more time outside again! Our toddlers have been enjoying their time playing with the outdoor equipment. We encourage outdoor activities as this cultivates development of their physical skills and provides opportunities for socialization and nature exploration outside the classroom. In the coming days, we are going to plant flowers and herbs in our big planters! As a reminder, please send your child with one flower or herb for the schoolyard. Please ask your child what s/he would like to bring for school.
During our work period children are choosing activities to do individually and sometimes together.
The children are learning to share and take turns, in addition to table manners as well. We also are learning how to use ‘gentle hands’, and patience through ‘waiting our turn’. Our older toddlers are also learning numbers and are very interested in sand paper letters. They are engaged in reading new spring books, singing spring insect songs i.e. Lady Bug Song, and using the new language cards.
On another note, the Toddler Class is having our yearly end of the year picnic next month! We are currently looking for ideas, so parents please give us some ideas! Please share your thoughts with any teacher in the coming days.
Also, we’d like to extend a warm welcome to our new friends: Ammar Hussain, Musa Serwar, Mikael Khan and Yusaf Fakhar.
Reminders:
Much love,
Ms. Tayyaba, Ms. Rena, and Ms. Shememe

March Newsletter
It was wonderful to see all parents last week at the Parent's Night. The students have been working
really hard and looked so proud to show you their work. Thank you once again for coming and making
it special for your child.
February was a short but very eventful month. We had a successful parents teacher conference
organized on February 17. We enjoyed talking to you and were excited to see your hard work with
children. During the last month, along with several activities, we also had our in-house field trip Mad Science.
The guest instructor offered children learning on Fire, Ice and Air. Children had a wonderful time
exploring while attending the activities planned during this event.
In the classroom, we read about the Presidents of the United States of America – “Famous Presidents”
by Philip Koslow. We learnt about their work and their great love for this country. We talked about
some other great leaders around the world who promoted peace in the world. Many new
lessons were introduced while revisiting the previous learning.
And now, we look forward to the new season – Spring!!
Children are happy and excited as we bring new work activities to the practical life area. We
expect to be working on developing the fine motor skills and advancing our kids to the next level
by using needles for stringing and sewing.
Spring is a great time for introduction to life cycles of different animals. This month, we will
work on the life cycle of a frog. As an important part of the sensorial area, we are also
excited to explore five senses with our children. On the geographical front, we will continue to
expand our knowledge on continents.
As you may be aware, children have been keeping busy preparing snacks on a daily
basis. We will be focusing on individualizing daily food prep activity. For example, making
pancakes, toast, milk shakes… YUMMMMM!! With this, children will have the
real experience of stirring, kneading, chopping fruits, blending and much more. Inadvertently,
they will learn kitchen verbs like blend, mix, chop, sprinkle and so on.
Last but not the least, thank you so much for the heartful donations towards the Syrian families as part ofthe Hope for Refugees campaign.

News from Lower Elementary(1st-3rd Grade)
Dear Parents:
We had many special events in the month of February, which made it one of our busiest months of the school year. The children enjoyed designing and building projects in Kids Design Engineering and Geo Spaces at the DuPage Children's Museum. We would like to thank Dr. Muhammad Khan for talking to our students about the importance of dental health. We really appreciated the engaging information our students received from Dr. Khan
Our students are enjoying Junior Achievement, thanks to our presenters: Mrs. Shama, Mrs. Habiba and Mrs. Wasaf. We would like to thank all of our parent volunteers from the bottom of our hearts for their time, commitment and dedication.
The students researched and presented a famous African American hero during African American History Month. We were very excited to hear the students' reports and view their poster boards depicting their heroes.
Our first year students are stepping in to the journey of grammar. They have been introduced to the first lesson about article and noun. In history, they are enjoying discussions related to food and nutrition. They understand the timeline and the events as they occurred during the Prehistoric, Egyptian, Greek, Middle Ages, Renaissance, and the Modern Time. The students are practicing and memorizing all of the fifty states in geography. In math, we will be working on abstract addition and subtraction, problem solving, money, measurement and fractions.
Our Second year students are working on writing paragraphs and the grammar box for interjection in language. In math, the students are working on fractions, measurement and times tables 8. In geography, the students will work on advanced landforms, map skills and Africa country research.
Our staff has spent an enormous amount of time preparing and making arrangements for the field trip to Nature’s Classroom Institute in Wisconsin. We are very excited! It will be an educational, fun filled and memorable experience. If your child is attending the field trip, please be at school at 6:45 a.m. on Monday, March 6, 2017. The students can be picked up from school at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8, 2017. If your child is not attending the field trip, your child will still attend school on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday during the regular school hours. There will be teachers in the classrooms and normal school work will precede on.
All of the children have settled very well into the school routine. We are pleased with their accomplishments. We continue to assist our children to demonstrate a very high level of honesty, integrity, caring, respect for one another, discipline, self-control, teamwork, and time management skills. Each and every child is working to his/her maximum potential. We are proud of them.
Your children have achieved so much in the last seven months and we commend you for your support. We are blessed to have such great families and that makes Kindi Academy a very desirable school to be associated with!
March is here, but we still have lingering snow and cold weather. Please be sure to dress your children according to the weather. With the weather being unpredictable, it is absolutely necessary that the children are dressed appropriately for outdoor recess.
Please do not take your child out of school for family vacations at this time. Students are feverishly learning new material at a voracious speed and to remove your child from the learning environment would be a great disservice. We want what is best for the child, therefore, let's work together and put the child first. We thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
As always, your child's well-being is our priority. If there are any concerns, please contact the teacher immediately.
Our school will be closed from March 24- April 2nd . Have a safe and wonderful Spring Break. We will see you back on April 3rd .
Sincerely,
The 6-9 Montessori Teachers

News From 4th-5th Grade
We are excited to welcome Spring soon in the Upper Elementary classroom! Students have been interested in observing bulbs growing and our outside environment coming to life.
We had a great experience while peer editing with some of the 6-8th graders. The 4-5th graders were working on descriptive writing at the time, and really enjoyed getting feedback on their rough drafts, from older, more experienced writers. Thank you Middle School, for your help!
In geography, 4th graders are continuing their study of world geography, focusing on Western Europe as we begin our study of the continent of Europe. Students love “pinning” the countries and landforms, experiencing geography in a hands-on way.
5th graders are brushing up on their money skills, including making change. Students are getting a first-hand view into being a “cashier” and “customer” in our own little Upper Elementary store. No calculators or machines allowed in this work! 4th graders are learning about bank accounts and writing checks. Each student will even have their own “bank account” and check book!
We are pleased to introduce Ms. Diane, who is assisting in our classroom. Diane is a veteran teacher with over 15 years experience. She has helped end our day peacefully, reading aloud one of her favorite books. We are very fortunate to have her!
Thank you for your continuing support and encouragement of our Upper Elementary classroom.

News From Middle School (6th - 8th)
Happy Spring!!
The students have had two wonderful field trips recently! We had a STEM field trip which allowed the students to roller skate! They had a blast. Then quite a few students experienced Nature’s Classroom, a wonderful outdoor education program that also builds camaraderie. For those that didn’t attend Nature’s Classroom, we went to Pump It Up, a bounce house facility to burn off a little extra energy from being cooped up!
In Social Studies, all the classes completed their units on World War I. The 6th graders studied the war from the United States perspective while the 7th and 8th graders were able to see things through a different set of eye, the European perspective. The 6th graders have also been working on propaganda posters using slogans and pictures to entice people and educate them about World War I. Look for these to be hung in the hallway soon!
The 6th Graders will be moving onto their unit on the Roaring 20’s where we will study the music, political influence, and dynamic people surrounding this time period. The 7th and 8th graders will be moving into their unit on the Russian Revolution and how World War I caused a worldwide great depression.
April Newsletter
Middle School students have been working hard this month! We had a fun field trip to the Jelly Bean Center in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin. The students had the opportunity to learn about how the jelly beans are made in the factory and see the assembly line for them. We also took a train ride through the warehouse. It was a great time had by all!!
In social studies, the 7th and 8th graders have been studying World War II from the European perspective. We have dug deep into various battles fought by the Germans and Italians.. We will be looking closely at the battle fought on the Pacific front and the involvement of the Japanese in World War II. We have involved many aspects of geography as we have been studying the war.
6th grade social studies are working on a unit about the Great Depression and the Stock Market. Each student has had the opportunity to “invest” into 5 different companies by “purchasing” shares of stock. Each student has $20,000 to “play” the market with. The students are to be checking their stocks everyday to see if they made or lost money that day. At the end of the unit, we will see who made the most and who lost the most money.
IOWA tests are coming up and then we will be entering our last month of school. The students are looking forward to our May field trip to the Northern Illinois Food Bank and then Field day near the end of May!
