Message from the Director
Dear Kindi Community,
We are having a very busy and energetic year! The school is a beehive of projects happening now and others in the pipeline for the next few weeks and months. We are shaking off the lackluster years of the pandemic and emerging back with new revitalized life and charged energies.
In the heart of all this buzz are our volunteer parents in the Kindi Academy Parent Association (KAPA) lead by Ms. Subuhi Humera and Ms. Cindy Kudelka. Their persistent efforts and enthusiasm brought you fun events in October and November. Their plans for future events are just fantastic and will bring lots of happiness to our families. I salute their spirit of volunteerism and their keen drive to bring pleasant and enjoyable experiences to our families.
Another group that works hard to make the school a welcoming and fun environment for students is Kindi's Student Council. This council is made fully from elected students and lead by Ms. Iiza Qureshi from the Eighth Grade class. The council is supervised and guided by Mr. M (Sevim) and Ms. Lisa. The council understands the students needs and aspirations and works with their guiding counselors and the administration to implement ideas that transform Kindi to an exciting place for students and make learning a lovely experience.
Kindi's staff and students are all working on our BIG EVENT. This is the Spring Celebration which will take place on Friday, March 10th. This events which engages ALL Kindi students is a wonderful gathering of our parents, staff, and students. Your children have already started or will soon start practicing for their part in the program. We ask that you support our teachers and help your students memorize and perfect their parts. We are looking forward to this event. Please save the date and make sure you invite your friends and family to showcase Kindi's talent.
Kindi is known for its rigorous academics. What many don't recognize is that we built an environment that makes children always eager and excited to come to school. They're not just receiving a top-notch education, but also developing and honing their other soft skills and leadership qualities. This in itself is invaluable! It is hard to find this golden combination anywhere else.
As always, I congratulate you for choosing Kindi for your children. This is the best gift you're giving your children. We are honored to be given the opportunity to have a positive impression on your family. Please spread the good word about Kindi! Let's build this institution strong to be in the service of the community for generations to come.
Best wishes,
Hatem Elagha

Message from the Dean
Dear Eagles,
Happy November! Time really does fly by when you’re having fun…and there’s been lots of fun happening in and out of Kindi Academy. I am so proud of all the hard work everyone has been putting in the past few months, and especially proud of all the optimistic comments I’ve been hearing from students this past October.
Our theme for the month of November is Friendship. The one thing I always say I have loved about Kindi is the strong community we have here. Friendship is central to this! This past week, students in my technology class made Vision Boards about their goals for the future and wrote about them. One student wrote her goal was to continue working hard in her classes because she was inspired by how well her classmates do and wants to do better because of their hard work. How wonderful to have friends that encourage us to work hard and become better versions of ourselves!
Our SEL classes will focus on discussing the qualities of a good friend and how to maintain good friendships with other students. We will also discuss conflict resolution and the ways to solve disputes with friends. Encourage your students to continue to be friendly to others and make friends with the other students. The memories they make in our classrooms here at Kindi may be ones that last a lifetime.
Encourage your child to continue to be friendly to others and make friends at school. The memories our children make in the classrooms here may be ones that last a lifetime.
Thank you for your continued support of our wonderful school community.
As always…GO EAGLES!

News from our 3-6 Classrooms
“What the hand does the mind remembers.” ~Maria Montessori
It has been a gorgeous autumn so far, and we enjoyed many beautiful days outdoors this October! This month we presented so many fun fall works, including parts of a skeleton, parts of a bat, and parts of a spider! The children learned about the bones in our bodies and facts about bats and spiders.
Fall is the perfect time to talk about pumpkins, so we dove into a pumpkin investigation when we carved a pumpkin together in class! We used adjectives to describe the pumpkin, estimated the number of seeds and its weight, and discussed what can be made from a pumpkin. There were 448 seeds in our pumpkin and it weighed 11 pounds! The children helped by pulling out the seeds and fibrous strands – they said it was wet, cold, and slimy! In addition, the children learned about a pumpkin’s life cycle! Everyone enjoyed tasting homemade pumpkin seeds, and surprisingly, many of the kids loved the salty, crunchy treat!
This month was our field trip to Brookfield Zoo! Before heading to the zoo, we discussed the five classifications of animals (birds, fish, amphibians, reptiles, and mammals) and talked about how animals can be carnivores, herbivores, or omnivores, like humans. The children enjoyed yet another lovely fall day at the zoo, and they loved seeing all of the different animals, like monkeys, orangutans, gorillas, bison, penguins, wolves, bears, and so much more! The animals were pretty active too!
The end of the month was topped off with Character Day! All of the children dressed up as a character of their choice and talked about how their character made a difference in the world and/or the importance of their character. We had some wonderful choices! There was a mix of medical professionals, first responders, scientists, inventors, artists, prophets, and some fictional characters too! They participated in a parade and had a great time showing off their costumes to the rest of the school!
In the midst of all the fun, the children have been hard at work. Many have started reading, word-building, and writing creative sentences! Some kindergarteners are learning their numbers up to 100 while some are adding or doing multiplication! Our youngest children have been working on sounds and numbers on a regular basis. We are proud to see so much progress these last few months!

Updates from Our 6-9 Classroom
“Free the child's potential and you will transform him into the world.
Maria Montessori
Our students are on the path of discovery and exploration with new concepts every week. The desire for learning is leading them towards a successful journey.
Our First year students are working hard to learn new spellings and create their own sentences. This will lead them into story writing. The first part of speech, Noun, has been introduced with the categories of proper and common nouns. They are learning to understand directions and work through their work plans. Students are taking pride in understanding the concept of rounding off numbers. Beginning of geometry with the understanding of lines has been introduced which will serve them for future concepts. New material "Stamp Game" has been introduced to strengthen their 4 digit addition and subtraction concepts.
Students will be making their charts for Fundamental Needs of Humans and practicing their artistic skills. They loved making the Water Cycle project. Students will be introduced to Vertebrates to understand their external parts and their function in depth.
Our Second year students are diving into advanced word study materials. They are creating sentences to understand the correct use of vocabulary with the correct usage of parts of speech. They are on the road to enhance their writing skills. Vocabulary exercises have been introduced. Proofreading and editing is the key in writing English.
They are excited to learn the special math material "Checkerboard" for advanced multiplication problems. They are learning the place value of the checkerboard to completely understand its function. Practicing the abstract addition and subtraction weekly will solidify their math facts. Measuring in inches with fractions is also providing them the opportunity to expand their math skills.
Students are working in full swing on the projects of Fundamental Needs of Humans, Water Cycle along with the continued study of Vertebrates.
Our Third year students are continuing to polish their paragraph writing skills using proofreading strategies. Reading and writing is an integral part of all their learning. Addition and subtraction of fractions with unlike denominators using LCM has been introduced. Advanced multiplication and division with 2 digits and 4 digits are being practiced for abstraction. Students are studying Types of Angles which will build the future concepts of advanced geometry. Children are demonstrating a high level of work in producing social sciences projects.
Children had a wonderful time at the Brookfield Zoo. The weather was beautiful. We are thankful to our chaperons for all their support and help.

Updates from 4th Grade
4th Grade English Language Arts and Reading
The 4th graders continue to show their dedication to growing. Students are continuing to work on their spelling and widening their vocabulary. Students have focused on simple and compound sentences. The differences between nouns (singular and plural/ regular and irregular), and different types of sentences (declarative, interrogative, imperative, and exclamatory).
Students have been broken up into two reading groups which are reading both amazing books titled Wonder and A Whole New Ballgame. Both books have similar themes such as acceptance of others' differences and friendship. Students are having engaging discussions to help them understand the book. Students are also opening their minds to how people can be very different and how those differences do not define who we are.
4th Grade Social Studies/World Regions
The 4th graders have been learning about the United States of America. Students. First, students had to learn about the geography of the US and then were tested on it. We continued moving forward talking about why America broke away from Great Britain. Through presentations, reading, and a little bit of acting students understood the frustrations and complexities that led to the American Revolution.
Students also worked on doing research by researching a person for character day. Students had fun searching the web for reliable information. They also had to take that information and write it in their own words.
Happenings in the Science Room
4th Grade
The fourth graders were learning about the engineering process by designing and building bridges, testing and. designing containers to protect eggs when dropped from a height.
They also learned about the physical properties of matter, such as density, conductivity, malleability and ductility.

5th Grade
In 5th grade we wrapped up the erosion and deposition unit by studying ande reproducing the effects of wind, ice and gravity in the Earth’s surface.
6th Grade & 7th Grade
Seventh grade is learning all about ions and how to name ionic compounds.
What better way for the 6th graders to learn about the cell membrane permeability than an osmosis lab? They got to see how different substances affect the rate at which water enters or leaves the “cells” and how this affects them.
8th Grade
The 8th graders got to experience the 2nd law of motion by designing an apparatus that would protect their egg from cracking or breaking when dropped from a height. They also experienced the effects of the 3rd law of motion, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

5th Grade Speech Class/Creative Expression
Students have been having fun and gaining confidence when it comes to public speaking. Students learned the “sins of public speaking”, common mistakes people make when they are presenting. Students then watched videos of people giving speeches, and then they were tasked to identify them. Students then gave their first introduction speech about themselves. They had to create a Crest to represent who they are as a person. Public speaking is a very difficult but vital tool for the students.
6th Grade Drawing Class/Art
6th grade students grabbed their graphite pencils and their colored pencils to begin their drawing adventure. Students learned about line work and patterns. They also were given tasks to help them work on these skills. Our students had to design apples with different patterns and they had to recreate famous artwork using a line grid. We are also bringing Social Emotional Learning into the classroom by having students do weekly journal homework, where they must draw something that makes them happy, scared, or etc.
Students also completed their first real project. This dictionary art project was fun and creative. Students had a word and had to design art to represent that word. The next project will have the students working with oil pastels.

Pyhsical Education - Grades 4-8
Students in grades 4th-8th participate in a monthly health lesson and have covered the topic of stress management (finding healthy ways to help manage stress and recognizing moments and scenarios that could increase our stress and how we can handle those situations in a positive way). We have also covered the topic of bullying that ties into our stress management lesson. Students considered different scenarios and how to react in a way that helps resolve the situation in a peaceful way. Student should continue to track bi-weekly exercise sessions in their personal fitness log on Google Classroom.
This past month, the days have been cooler and 4-8th Grade students have enjoyed indoor soccer matches, volleyball games, badminton games, Gaga Ball (pit dodgeball), inverted volleyball (nukem), and even "beach" volleyball with a very large bouncy ball!
Upcoming physical education lessons include a yoga/flexibility lesson for improved body strength and flexibility, along with some dodgeball fun and practice with proper exercise technique to traditional body weight strengthening and hi-low aerobics!

4th Grade Technology News from Mr. Memisovski
Our 4th graders have been working hard on creating Google Slides Presentations. Students made their own presentation about their Character for Character Day and they’ve done a tremendous job. We are now learning the basics of Google Sheets. Students are entering data and finding the mean, median, mode, range, sum, products, and more of the data! The look on their faces when Google Sheets computed everything for them was priceless! We are now using the data to create graphs. We will soon be learning about Conditional Formatting and creating different pieces of art using Google Sheets!
7th & 8th Grade Advanced Technology II
Our Advanced Technology II class has gotten off to an excellent start! Students started the quarter creating Vision Boards about their goals and career aspirations. Then, students typed a short reflective paper about their goals. It was so great reading about all their goals and the inspiration behind them!
We are now learning about spreadsheets and using Google Sheets. Students are creating their own Area Guides in groups where we’ve combined Google Sheets, AppsScript (coding), and MyMaps to show the location of these places they’ve found. We will be starting Web Design soon- and the kids will be creating websites using Google Sites, Weebly, Wix, or through Coding on Code.org!
I look forward to all the wonderful projects the students will do in Technology Class. Their creativity is inspiring across all grade levels. Keep up the great work!

5th-8th Grade Social Studies News from Mr. Memisovski
Our Eagles have been hard at work in Social Studies this month. Character Day was one of the highlights across all classes. Students researched a famous scientist, historical figure, president, etc. and put together a wonderful Wax Museum on Character Day. Students and teachers learned so much about all the different figures. Excellent job students!
5th graders are studying Ancient World History, and we have recently completed our unit on Ancient Egypt. Students built their own Sarcophagus and presented their projects to the class. We are now into our unit on Ancient India, learning about the Harappans and Aryans. We will also be looking at the development of Hinduism and Buddhism during this unit. The students will have another project where they will write newspaper articles as if they are living through major events in Ancient Indian history.
6th graders are studying World Geography and are closing up our unit on Latin America. We’ve had some great discussions in class about the economies of the different Latin American countries, read interesting articles about Deforestation in the Amazon, and studied the culture of different countries in Latin America. Our next unit will begin next week as we study Europe. We will spend a time discussing major events in European history, as well as studying the physical geography of Europe before diving into the different regions of Europe. This unit includes a Research Project where students will pick a country in Europe to research and put together a Travel Website.
7th graders have just finished our U.S. Constitution Unit and I am so proud of them! Each student scored above a 94%...amazing job to all students!! We are now going to jump into American History right after the writing of our Constitution…looking at the early presidencies and expansion of the United States.
8th graders have finished their unit on Absolute Monarchies and we are now studying the Age of Enlightenment and the French Revolution. We learned about the different political philosophies coming out during the Enlightenment and analyzing them, looking at whether or not they are effective and how they differ from previous ways of thinking. Students will soon be designing their own protest posters to support one of the estates during the French Revolution.
I look forward to more fun throughout the month of November. Students will soon be getting their Final Exam Study Guides before Thanksgiving Break so they have plenty of time to begin prepping for their exams. I know they will do great!

Updates from our spanish classroom
Spanish with Maestra Maria:
¡Hola familias!
During the month of October, we made great progress in learning Spanish. I had the
amazing opportunity to meet some families during the conferences, and I loved
spending time talking about your children.
In the 3-6 program, we have been working on “the Family”, with Montessori cards,
family toys, and with the characters from the “Encanto” movie. We learned the name
of some animals in the zoo by practicing yoga. We went back to work on the colors
with the Lego pieces, which is something that children love. We took the opportunity
to learn a little about Mexican culture and we were playing memory with vocabulary
from this country. We also reviewed the geometric figures and the animals from the
Farm.
In the 6-9 program, we are working on the alphabet and letter sounds. We have
worked with different Montessori presentations where they had to classify letters
according to their sound, guess a word by listening to me spell it, and play hangman.
We learned to write the name of the zoo animals, they have drawn them, and we did
yoga postures.
The 4th and 5th-grade students have continued to work on writing numbers, phone
numbers, and how to read basic arithmetic operations in Spanish. We have continued
to expand the vocabulary of the class and worked on some grammatical structures
such as: "There is" and "I have". We have reviewed the alphabet and letter sounds.
Before the end of the first quarter, they had their first oral test in Spanish and all the
students did it very well. Now, we are working on the singular and the plural.
The 4th graders worked with the traditional Mexican song “La Llorona”, from the
movie Coco.
We will continue working with great enthusiasm!

Spanish with Maestra Alicia:
4th Grade
Students have been excited and engaged with our current instructional topic “El salon de clase” (The classroom). They have mastered naming classroom objects and school supplies in the target language. They know how to use “ hay” (there is) when naming and counting. Students are still learning to add -s and -es plural endings to nouns, as well as “los” and “las” and associate them with plural nouns endings. Kids are having fun by practicing vocabulary using www.conjuguemos.com where they can go at their own pace.
5th. Grade
We are currently on Unit 3. Adonde vas hoy? “ (Where are you going today?) Students have been building vocabulary such as days of the week and related vocabulary such as hoy and el fin de semana. They started and will continue to learn to name common places in a town such as el cine, la escuela, and el parque. Soon they will be able to talk about going places on different days of the week.
6th. Grade
I am beyond proud of my 6th graders! They did a TREMENDOUS job acquiring the new vocabulary of unit 2. Lesson 2. Classroom Objects, Feelings and places in school. Now they can describe classes and classroom objects, say where things are located and also to talk about how they feel. Grammar lessons included the verb estar and the conjugated verb before the subject to ask a question. It’s a lesson that will help them communicate in Spanish for day to day scenarios. Super practical!
7th. Grade
The students have been working hard on memorizing the Direct Object Pronouns: me, te, lo, la, nos, os, los, las. It has been a challenge, but they did it! Now they are comfortable using subject pronouns, which excites everyone. Next is Lesson 2 named Qué hacemos esta noche? ( what do we do tonight ? ) Here, students have been learning new vocabulary such as places to go in Town: el cine, el teatro, el concierto, and means of transportation: a pie, en coche, en autobus. The vocabulary is exciting as it can easily be used for the student’s day to day activities.
