Dear Kindi Community,

Welcome to Kindi Academy, where students are the center of all we do. Our passion for teaching your children and strong motivation to nurture them is what drives our decisions daily. At Kindi, all our teachers and staff work in tandem as one body to deliver the best service to you and the best education and support to your children. Kindi’s motto of “follow the child” makes it such that students receive the instruction that matches their academic level and meets their potential. While Kindi is not officially a “0ne-on-one” teaching place, practically it is! Your child is not just a name on the roster, they are known for who they are. Teachers have a deep understanding of your child’s emotional, social, and academic standing. This understanding contributes to the noticeable progress of students within few weeks into the school year.

After over a decade of graduating top notch students, I can confidently say that the level of academics and the diverse set of skills our students graduate Kindi with is unmatched except maybe in a handful of some elite schools that have been around for many decades over.

A Kindi evolves over the years, we strive to meet the need of students and families. This year, we instated an SEL Program. This refers to Social and Emotional Learning program. This program spreads across all the grades with different frequency of instruction. We are looking to this program to address many of the issues our children and youth are facing in today's world. It will also serve as an avenue for students to vent their feelings and discuss critical issues occupying their minds. Social and Emotional wellness is vital for academic success.

An essential factor contributing to the success and achievement of students is the family. The collaboration between school and home is one of the cornerstones of success for our children. Parents who understand and support the school’s philosophy lay the ground for children’s prosperity and happiness at school. I encourage parents to portray the school in a positive shade to their children, and reach out to teachers and staff with any concerns they have so as to complete the circle of cooperation between both pillars of a child's growth, school and home.

I congratulate you for choosing Kindi Academy for your child’s education. You gave them the gift of success. We are humbled and they'll always be grateful. Thank you!

Best wishes,

Hatem Elagha

Message from the Dean

Greetings Eagle Family!

I am so proud and honored to be your Dean of Students!  The Eagle Spirit I’ve been seeing throughout the school has been amazing to see.  All our students have been working hard in and out of the classroom following the SOAR Expectations- Be Safe, On-Time/On-Task, Act with Empathy, and Be Respectful!

Each month, there is a different theme we focus on as a school to encourage and promote positive behavior choices.  These themes also take center stage in the SEL (Social-Emotional Learning) Classes taught by Ms. Lisa Wright.  For the month of August, our theme was SOARing to Success where we focused on building a school community and understanding our expectations.  In September, students learned all about kindness and were challenged to do as many kind acts as possible every single day!  The kids did amazing!

This month, our theme is Optimism and Positivity!  The goal this month is to have students think positively about the future and what’s ahead for them.  Sometimes, there may be negative things that happen throughout life, and we want to inspire our students to think positively, as that truly is half the battle when dealing with any obstacle that comes our way.

A few weeks ago, I heard a 4th grade student sitting in my classroom talk about the amount of homework he had.  Many students would say something like, ”Oh no, I have so much homework!  This stinks!”.  Instead of the student saying that, he had a positive attitude about the situation and remained optimistic, “If I finish my homework in study hall or during class, then I can have more time to play at home”.  This is the positive mindset we want to instill in ALL our Eagles here at Kindi Academy.

Every month, teachers send names of students to me to nominate as our Eagle of the Month.  This award is given to students who have demonstrated the monthly theme throughout the month.  Below you will see the names of our Eagles of the Month for August and September.

As always, please reach out to me at dean@kindiacademy.com if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.  It’s a great day to be a Kindi Eagle!

Keep SOARing and GO EAGLES!

My best to you all,

News from our 3-6 Classrooms

“The most important period of life is not the age of university studies, but the first one, the period of birth to the age of six.”
~ Maria Montessori

Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year!  September has been a busy, exciting, and fun month!  We started the year by coming up with classroom rules and reminding each other of those rules.  Among other things, we practiced rolling rugs, walking around a rug without stepping on someone’s work, and overall grace and courtesy (i.e., being polite, sharing, taking turns, waiting patiently).  We have discussed the importance of taking care of our environment, the classroom, and the materials as well as taking care of ourselves, especially since COVID is still around.  We wash and sanitize hands and surfaces regularly to keep our classroom environment safe and clean for everyone!
Being a Montessori child focuses on independence and personal growth, both academically and emotionally.  We encourage children to try things on their own and offer assistance only if needed.  By doing this, children are given the opportunity to build confidence, self-pride, and self-motivation.
September is when we talk about delicious apples!  We talked about the parts of an apple and its life cycle.  The children had a wonderful time exploring Blackberry Farm on their field trip!  They enjoyed a wagon ride to the apple orchard, creating an apple craft, making apple cider with an old-fashioned apple press, and watching the tour guide make applesauce in an iron pot over a campfire!  All the children got to taste apple butter, apple cider, and even apple cider donuts! YUM!  We look forward to going to
Brookfield Zoo for our next field trip!

They have been introduced to write 2  and  3 times tables with advanced concepts of multiplication and division using the Montessori materials.Use of the dictionary is bringing a new level of enthusiasm into their learning. The concept of addition of fractions with denominators has been introduced with Montessori materials. they have started to analyze the sentences with the function of parts of speech. Social sciences are an integral part of their learning and they are taking pride in creating projects. Students are learning geometrical concepts and integrating with art and design.

The first quarter has started so well. The fifth graders began the school year off with working parts of
speech. By focusing on the parts of speech the students will improve their writing by identifying
important aspects of writing such as identifying the subject of sentences as well as subject verb
agreements which is an integral part of writing. The exercises we do in class will prepare students for the next aspect of grammar writing sentences and paragraphs.

5th-8th Grade Social Studies News from Mr. Memisovski

Dear 5th-8th Grade Families,

The year has gotten off to a great start!  I am so proud of the hard work all our students have been putting into the classroom.

5th graders are studying Ancient World History.  We have concluded our study of the Mesopotamians and are now learning about the Ancient Egyptians.  We are starting off with learning about the geography of Egypt, then diving into the different kingdoms.  The students will need to bring a shoebox for the Sarcophagus Project coming up towards the middle of the month.

6th graders are studying World Geography, where we dive into the different regions of the world and study their geography, history, economics, government, culture, and more!  We are finishing up our study of the US and Canada, where we discussed the different physical features, cultural traits, historical background, as well as learning about NAFTA and comparing it with the USMCA.  We will now be studying Latin America, and the kids will be making Travel Brochures about one of the Latin American countries.

7th graders have been studying US History, and we are now in the beginning of our US Constitution Unit.  This is a state requirement and it is necessary to pass the Constitution Test.  We have been learning about the foundations of our government, spent time debating the philosophies of two political philosophers- John Locke and Thomas Hobbes, and are now looking at the Articles of Confederation and events leading to the writing of the Constitution.  The Constitution Test is going to be on Wednesday, November 2nd!

8th graders are studying Modern World History, and this past month the students presented their research on the different Muslim Empires- the Ottomans, Safavids, and Mughals.  We are now studying exploration of the Eastern and Western Worlds in the 1400s/1500s - looking at the different attempts to find a quicker route to Asia, as well as the “discovery” of the “New World”.  We will be closing up this unit this week and will be moving on to study the rise of Absolute Monarchs in Europe.  We’ve had some great discussions in class, and I look forward to more fun to come!

Updates from our spanish classroom

Spanish with Maestra Maria:

¡Hola Familias!
We started the course with a great desire to learn and a lot of energy.
In the 3-6 program, we began working with colors by doing various activities such as a
collaborative game in which students made a Lego construction. We have also worked
on the Seasons of the year, first focusing on Summer, and then on Autumn, working on
concepts like hot and cold, and the colors of Autumn. Other concepts that we have
worked on during these first classes of the course have been: shapes, numbers from 1
to 10, big-small, vowels, and farm animals.
In the 6-9 program, we started talking about Summer and the students explained to
me what they did during the Holidays, and they learned vocabulary about Summer
such as sun, starfish, sandcastle, umbrella… They also decorated the cover of their
Spanish notebook. This program is very focused on learning to read and write in
Spanish, so they have written songs about the colors, the days of the week, and the
seasons... they love to sing, and they know all the songs. Later, we went back to work
on the Seasons, focusing on the arrival of Autumn. They have also worked on numbers
1-10 (1st and 2nd grade), and 1-20 (3rd grade). This week we are going to work with
the alphabet song.
My 4th and 5th-grade students have started working with the first 6 lessons of the
book ¡Viva el español! For many students, it was the first time they learned Spanish, so
I made sure that they properly understood all the concepts, establishing a solid
foundation for later learning. We have worked on concepts such as: What's your
name? How are you today? , Greetings, class objects, and numbers from 1-40 (4th
grade) and 1-100 (5th grade).
Language learning is based on repetition, so we will come back to all these concepts
again throughout the course.

Muchas gracias,
Ms. Maria

Spanish with Maestra Alicia:

4th Grade
The students had a great time reviewing how to use greetings. For example, ‘Hola!’,
‘Buenos Dias!’, ‘Adiós!’, ‘Hasta Luego!', etc. They also practiced how to introduce
themselves, greet their classmates, and express how they feel. This month and a half,
4th Graders learned to say many different objects and people in their classroom such
as, ‘El Pizarrón’, ‘El Escritorio’, and ‘La Maestra’. Students enjoy the challenge of seeing
who knows the most items. In addition, they started to learn to ask questions with the
proper terms such as como, que, cual, cuanto and quien.

5th Grade
Fifth graders have been reviewing vocabulary for colors, shapes, animals and descriptive words
or adjectives such as pequeno, largo and flaco. They have mastered the use of singular and
plural endings on adjectives, masculine and femenine endings, and the use of definitive and
indefinite articles. Students can now have more vivid conversations and descriptions of
everyday items!

6th Grade
Sixth graders have done outstanding with our Unit 2, Lesson 1, Culmination. The main focus
was on talking about daily schedules, asking & telling time, expressing what they possess and
do, & how often things are done. We have an upcoming activity that consists of a live
conversation led by myself to help students engage and practice what was learned from the
unit. It’s something we are all excited for!

7th-8th Grade
Seventh and Eighth graders have started the school year strong with Unit 4, Lesson 1. The
focus in this unit was vocabulary relating to shopping and clothing items. Many conversations
were about clothes they want to buy and what to wear in different seasons. Grammar lessons
included “Tener expressions and students are working really hard to memorize the
stem-changing verbs: e → ie. Coming up will be learning about direct object pronouns. Students
have been taking the challenge very well & everyone is excited to continue on their language
journey!
